Of course the Pistols got a lot of inspiration from the New York Dolls. The Dolls toured England in 1973, and Malcolm McLaren helped put that tour together... which served as inspiration for him to form the Sex Pistols in late '75.

And as long as punk is the subject, I just found out that Dee Dee Ramone died yesterday. That sucks.

Ramones pretty much define punk. Bye, Dee Dee.

Do many floyd fans like the Ramones? The ones I know do.

I absolutely love the Ramones. They were the second punk band I got into, after the Pistols.
The Ramones were doing punk before the Pistols were, which I think is really cool.

I could see where progressive rock type fans might hate that stuff. Like Gilmour said: Emotions over technical ability. King Crimson balanced the 2 well, I think.

Some years ago I spent some time in Nova Scotia, and I couldn't help but notice that everyone had a picture of the Queen on their wall, and were serious about their devotion to England and the Royal Family. Very admirable. (I'm sure it's different in Quebec). Are you Aussies likewise as attached? For some reason I can't imagine it being that way down under. I could be wrong.
