I liked somebody's (Ickky, Hicks, Botley?) crack about "phoned in guitar solo by David."

That was a hoot.

Re: What do you play more?

I like em both a lot but id say that AMLOR just edges it - gilmour's guitar work is wonderful and it saves many a mediocre song. U cudn't ask for a more soul-bearing album than TFC tho - cracking 2.

Re: What do you play more?

That was me. It is though! (the guitar solo on TFC's title track)

Some of the solos on that album are just... so... random. Lyrics, orchestra, lyrics, orchestra--- whoops! Time for a "soaring" guitar solo now! The solos on The Pros And Cons of Hitchhiking are much more suited to the music, which is why I think Rog should have waited to put TFC out on his own, with his PCHH band. Clapton certainly cared a lot more about Roger's concepts than Dave ever did.

And they played a pretty mean Gunner's Dream on the PCHH tour.

Actually you're wrong!

Here's what Tim Renwick said about Clapton's attitude during the Pros and Cons tour:

"Eric and Roger did have a slight falling out at one point. I mean,
Eric didn't really understand Roger's slant. Roger would be fussing about with some lighting effect, and Eric would say, "Can't we just play the tune, man?"

Re: What do you play more?

Firstly, I must give euegenesaxe cum Organ Grinder my appy polly loggies for insisting that DSOTM songs were performed by the Floyd during their 1981 The Wall concerts in London's Earls Court.

I was mistaken. They did not perform those songs. Mea culpa, Kevvy-baby.

These songs WERE indeed performed by Roger and his PCHH band, when I saw them Live some years later.

Anyway, during one of Clapton's solos during PCHH, Roger quite angrily yelled at Eric - I couldn't understand what he said, something about it "being HIS show" - and Eric cut his solo shorter than I guess Eric would have liked.

So, I am more willing to believe Roger and Eric were in less accord than is suggested by Botley's claim.

Ciao for now,
Byron

Re: What do you play more?

Yes, Clapton didn't quite understand it all, and regretted doing it.

As for TFC vs. AMLOR. TFC definitely gets more play.

Re: What do you play more?

That's just his reaction to the restrictive nature of the shows... I mean, for someone like Clapton, who comes from a background of pure jamming, it would be very irritating to have to play exactly six 2-bar solos in exactly the same place every night. So I can understand about him getting pissed off during the tour.

But that's not a problem in the studio, since you usually end up doing that anyway, and in that environment Clapton really proved he could feel the story and translate it into music to a far more subtle and effective degree than Dave was able to on TFC or even The Wall. And that's why I would have been very interested to hear his take on songs like The Final Cut and The Fletcher Memorial Home.

I don't listen to either of them very much anymore. I like PCHH much better. But I'm able to sit through the entirety of TFC much more easily than AMLOR... I just have to skip through parts of the first half (Dogs of War and On the Turning Away come immediately to mind)

Re: What do you play more?

Yeah... less skipping on TFC (Paranoid Eyes being the only one) while AMLOR, I suppose I listen only to Signs of Life,One Slip, Learning to Fly, Sorrow... I think that's that!

Re: What do you play more?

i can't believe ud b so shallow as to disregard any waterless floyd? AMLOR is a really good cd - listen to it and learn.
I particularly like 'Yet Another Movie', 'Sorrow' and 'Terminal Frost' is one of my fav instrumentals.
