What types of music do you listen to?

Besides classic rock, of course, since all Floyd fans listen to one classic rock group!

If one of your choices is not shown, please specify in a post.

Please note this poll is multiple-choice.

Here are my choices:

Classical
Jazz
Folk/Traditional (especially Irish)
New Age/Techno
Modern Rock/Pop (sparingly, but there are some good groups.)

I selected 'other' because I mostly listen to 70's progressive and 60's psychedelic including bands such as (besides Pink Floyd): King Crimson, Yes, Genesis, The Doors, The Who, Blue Oyster Cult and The Velvet Underground.

I picked:

Blues-
Because I like the blues when I get to hear it.

Classical -
I like Beethoven and Mozart.

Rap/Hip Hop -
Because I like some rap, i.e. Biz Markie, Run-DMC, Dr. Dre, some Snoop Doggy Dogg... but I hate Eminem, which shows I can be selective (I guess... )

Modern Rock -
Because there are some decent new rock bands out there, the best currently being System of a Down.

i picked:

classical - mostly the classical and romantic period. modern period is not too bad either.

country - i know its sad but there is some good stuff. the old school stuff like gram parsons and flying burrito bros. is good. and one new band called the beachwood sparks are good also. but that is absolutely all i listen to. i just lost so much respect (as if i had any to begin with)

modern rock - see the thread about who is realeasing decent stuff nowadays

other - jazz (there wasn't a choice for that was there? i've already forgotten)

Beachwood sparks, are they on the BOMP label? Gram Parsons, yeah...His friends stole his body enroute to his funeral and took him out to Joshua Tree and burned him. That's some loyal friends. Hot burrito!

Oops. And if you want to see something even MORE embarrassing, scroll up in this thread and read very carefully. I am leaving it unedited because...well, it's very funny.

uh, I don't think I can partake in this vote because I disagree with the whole idea of pigeonholing music. I like what sounds good. Simply put. Anything from bluegrass to classical to classic rock. Not only that, what defines modern rock? Is Metallica in the same category as U2? The Smiths in the same category as Bjork? They Might Be Giants and Tool?

sarah: no beachwood sparks are on sub pop though they did release a single on bomp! and apparently thats what gram parsons wanted though no one knows for sure. its better that they did that anyway. i can't remember the whole story but it had something to do with his step dad who was a right bastard.

FWr: i don't see it. also can you get rid of one of those doubled posts. i tried to do it but i guess only mods can delete posts. man where was that feature when...nevermind.

NNJ: fair enough. but i didn't like everything that was on the poll so it made sense for me to vote. maybe the others too.

thanks. do you mean the fact that you voted for jazz seeing as how there was no choice for that?

I didn't say I liked all the choices, just that I may like something from any of the choices. I absolutely hate country, but thoroughly enjoy The Blues Brothers rendition of Tammy Wynette's Stand By Your Man.

ah i see. but just because you like the blues brother's version of a country song doesn't necessarily mean you like the type of music the original song was born into. you know what i mean?

I voted for "Blues" and "other".

I have about everything Clapton ever done (FloydWright staggers with nausea) SRV, Stones, Ronnie Earl, John Fogarty, Freddie King. Though I really don't care for the basic old-black-dude-sittin'-on-the-porch stuff.

Classical: I LOVE Tchaikovsky. 1812 Overture and Swan Lake knock me out. I like Franz Liszt too.

I Love Neo-Surf Rock...(Crank up the reverb to 11!) Stuff by groups like Pollo Del Mar, Shadowy Men On A Shadowy Planet, etc.

Mainstream/classical rock like U2, Live, Concrete Blond, Guns'NRoses, Def Leppard, Dire Straits, REM, Rush, Bob Segar, Chris Isaak.

Guitar Rock--Satch, Vai, Petrucci, Gilbert, Eric Johnson, Danny Gatton, Hellecasters.

Punk---Sisters Of Mercy, Bauhaus, Wire, TSOL, Godfathers.

Prog: (besides PF) Yes, Procol Harum.

Country: Not much, but I like some of the guitar riffs. I DO love Ninety Miles An Hour (Down A Dead-End Street) by Hank Snow.

Is Bauhaus considered punk? I never thought of it as such.
