Favorite Kubrick Film

Curious to see what everyone's favorite Stanley Kubrick film is. Feel free to expand on your answer.

I would personally have to go with A Clockwork Orange, although 2001 and The Shining are close runnersup. Clockwork really changed the way I looked at both film and the world.

I voted for Clockwork Orange. Full Metal Jacket and 2001 were runners-up.
I like Clockwork because it's just so haunting. And Nadsat is a really cool language. Because of it, I address my friends as 'droogies' and call young deliquents 'malchicks'. I even throw in the odd 'chai' every once in a while, just to keep things fresh.

Re: Favorite Kubrick Film

2001 is the best sci-fi movie period.

I hate the way everyone sees Clockwork and is automatically their favorite movie. Mainly people who want to be 'different' and answer Clockwork whenever someone asks them what their favorite movie is, and they've only seen it like twice. Clockwork would come third to me, last comment withstanding.

Dr. Strangelove is awesome, the performances, screenplay and direction are perfect. Priceless comedy #2.

Full Metal Jacket and Eyes Wide Shut are great, but again, people don't *get them*. They like Jacket because of the intense violence and profanity and EWS because of the orgy and the masked ball sequence. Very good movies though, a bit flawed, not as perfect as the others.

The Shining is also different, cinematically it's very very good, but Nicholson is way over the top, and as Mr. King himself said of Kurbick's adaptation of his novel: - Mr. Kubrick seems to want to hurt people with this movie.

Paths of Glory is a tremendously powerful film. The performances, the dialogue, the direction.... My # 4

Lolita is simply not that good.

The Killing is a great little noirish film. The whole film is a cinematic 'exerceise', kinda like Memento.

Well, that's my two cents.

Kubrick is a genius

Re: Favorite Kubrick Film

stephen king needs to shut the hell up. that newer miniseries of the shining sucked ass compared to kubricks. the only thing good about it is that it had brian from the show wings. have you seen the making of that kubricks daughter filmed. its pretty funny to see how mad he gets.

Bertin Brando:

I picked A Clockwork Orange because it is my favorite Kubrick film out of the few I've seen. I don't say it's my favorite because I liked the violence or that it has a couple sex scenes. It is a good f**king movie, and a very good adaption of the book. And I have seen A Clockwork Orange in it's full length seven times, so I guess I can say it's my favorite Kubrick film without seeming like a poser.

Also, I think I got Full Metal Jacket. It is about how war is horrible, right? Of course it is. The reason that Clockwork is better is because it happens to take me in better than Full Metal Jacket.

As for 2001... I like the images, but the whole sci-fi thing, I really don't dig. That's the only sci-fi movie I like.

And those are MY two cents.

(I think I've calmed down now...)

Only a real loser would lie about their favorite movie to try and look cool. If I wanted to be different I would say The Killing. Besides, tomorrow 2001 or Strangelove will be my fave. I'm sure not trying to impress anyone with my favorite film! That's just sad. The messages in C.O. are more relevant today than ever. Not that you were referring to me, BRANDO.

Don't get me wrong, I never meant that anyone in here was like that. It's just that it happens all the time. I stopped showing my 'cult films' collection to my friends, because they totally trashed the experience for me. I mean, it happens all the time. For example, with Floyd, you play them CN, SOYCD or Money or whatever and they don't stop playing it.......

It totally ruins the song, same happens with the movies. Even though Clockwork is a masterpiece, at least 5 friends of mine (and one girl) have seen it, loved it, and hailed it as their fave film. I doubt they even know it's a Kubrick film.

Re: Favorite Kubrick Film

i totally understand you bertin brando. when its something you really like and others don't seem to get it or only like the most popular aspect of that particular thing then it tends to piss you off. like when someone really likes money and they know the words and then us and them comes on and they have no idea what they are hearing.

Re: Favorite Kubrick Film

Kubrick was a genius. I wish I had multiple choices here, because it's quite difficult to choose just ONE.
I love Clockwork, probably it's my favourite but Shining is very very close (Nicholson is my fave actor ) so I should vote for both these films.
I really like also Full Metal Jacket, 2001, and the two most underrated Kubrick films: EWS and Barry Lyndon.

Ok, my vote is Clockwork.

Watch it guy, Stephen King is the man and has every right to be upset that his great books always get turned into subpar movies.

Pet Semetary
The Shining
Cujo
The Dead Zone
Firestarter
The Stand
Christine
Carrie
ect ect ect..

If you don't know what I'm talking about, read the books and then watch the movies again. You'll see what I mean.
