Welcome to the boards, Sinatic.

Beware of posting NEW duplicate threads, as it makes the natives restless.

Friendly Floydian,

Well I don't think I've listened to APP before either (refer my comments about The Who somewhere else).

Can someone provide me with a list of 70s bands that I might want to treat my ears to? BoaB I'm guessing you'd be a wealth of knowledge there...respecting your taste and all.

You guys put so much faith in my abilities I sometimes want to spit at you for your adulation.

Um...my tastes are so eclectic as to be almost worthless for anyone else but myself, but I'll give it a go with some 70's recommendations. Remember, though, that my record-buying abilities didn't properly develop until the 80s <SHUDDER>.

Alan Parsons Project - most, as has already been stated.

Peter Frampton ...COMES ALIVE - wicked guitar solo on Do You Feel

Tangerine Dream - FORCE MAJEURE exps. Cloudburst Flight

ELP - though I have none of their LPs (remember those things?)

Jethro Tull - AQUALUNG, MINSTREL IN THE GALLERY, THE PASSION PLAY, or THICK AS A BRICK are all v good

Mike Oldfield - very much overlooked, to everyone's cost, TUBULAR BELLS is a nice start then CRISES and FIVE MILES OUT (where you'll hear the ORIGINAL Family Man that was mangled by Hall & Oates.

Yes - Oh yes! THE YES ALBUM, YESSONGS, FRAGILE, yes yes yes
(I even bought Jon Anderson's OLIS OF SUNHILLOW and regretted it for a while before learning to like it)

Jon (Anderson) & Vangelis - FRIENDS OF MR CAIRO (where you'll hear the ORIGINAL State of Independence that was mangeled by Donna Summer

Vangelis - a bit "plinky plonky" but there are gems among the dross, ALBEDO 0.39, HEAVEN AND HELL, COSMOS which contains the pair's best IMO, So Long Ago, So Clear, and CHARIOTS OF FIRE (if you must )

Supertramp - good clean fun, CRISES, WHAT CRISES? and BREAKFAST IN AMERICA, esp. Rudy should be on everyone's list.

The Moody Blues - DAYS OF FUTURE PASSED but any really - Knights in White Satin is probably their most famous. THE WAR OF THE WORLDS, which has many bits by Justin

Stevie Wonder - SONGS IN THE KEY OF LIFE, if you cannot find anything on there you don't like, you ain't breathin' :o

Note to that last: you young whipper-snappers will find the ORIGINAL version of Pastime Paradise here and listening to it will make you realise what a savage hatchet job Coolio - him of the effing stupid hairdo - made of it.

That's all folks!
Byron
