Enigma occasionally shows Floydlike tendencies...well, not Floyd, really. I'm pretty sure on two of their albums I recognise sound effects from both ATD and Broken China. Their second album has the same "Satellite" as Broken China, excpet it's mixed differently and has a different "orbit", so to speak. It also has an interesting clanging loop in the second track that sounds an awful lot like the backing track to "What God Wants, Part I". Their third album has a backwards message on it, similar to ATD. Overall, the sound is similar to Broken China. My guess is (and this is just a GUESS) that there are two common threads: the first is I think all three artists may use the same make of synthesiser. I'd put my money on Kurzweil, given that's what Mr. Wright favours. The other resemblance is a tendency towards a very rich, layered sound with a strong, sometimes world-beat sound. It's a similar blend between analogue and synthetic, so there's a bit of a resemblance in technique to Broken China. Who influenced who? I have no idea. But I think it's pretty interesting.

I may have a bad ear, but I always thought that Golden Earing's Twilight Zone sounded a bit-floydish. Maybe not so much as influenced but a bad imitation?

Sigur Ros have announced the details of their new album, '( )'. Yes, that's just a pair of parentheses. The record has 8 untitled tracks and runs 70 minutes long. The lyrics are in the Sigur Ros invented language, hopelandic, so they're pretty much all instrumentals. As you can see they're taking a very minimalistic approach and even the album credits will only be found on their website. The new album is is scheduled to be released on October 28th. Cheers, Mark
