Pigs On The Wing 8-track version.

I'd like to know more about this song... where has it first appeared? Why is Snowy White playing a solo on a studio song? Is there any record where I can find it?

It first appeared on the 8-track version, which came out in 1977 (along with the album). Snowy White was on it because he was the only one around!
The track is also on the Snowy White album 'Goldtop'.

It is also on the 4 disc box set "Total Eclipse:A Retrospective 1967-1990". It's included on disc 4 but taken from the 8-track if my memory serves me right. It sounds fairly well if it is straight from the 8-track. So, if you can find this RoIO, not only would you get "Pigs on the Wing pts.1&2" but quite a few of some other little rare gems.

I payed $100 for that thing in 1996. I don't think the Quality of Pigs on the Wings is very good.

Like Shane said, the best place to get it is Snowy's CD Gold Top. The track has been newly remastered and sounds even better than the tracks on the Animals CD!

I've said it before and I'll say it again... this track could have been a single. It could have gone to #1. And then Animals wouldn't have been ignored by so many.

I agree, man... although I believe 'Animals' has not been "ignored by many".

Sure it has. Most critics don't even choose to evaluate it when they talk about Floyd. When I first heard about it, it was referred to as the "lost" Floyd album that fans of The Wall, WYWH and Dark Side had chosen to overlook. Maybe a singles chart sucess on par with Money and ABitW2 would have changed that.

#1 in Britain. #3 in America.

I'll agree that of all the albums released after DSOTM, Animals is the one you generally hear less about.

That's just because it had the PF name on it... they had a huge hardcore fanbase by then, anything with "Pink Floyd" on it would have done well. But an accessible single would've ensured casual listeners would have bought it, too.

Besides, Gilmour says they don't pay attention to album charts, only to singles (when they do choose to release them). I wonder what would have gone on the B-Side...

I agree eugenesaxe, the quality wasn't that good. It kind of sounds a little slow. And I'm quite sure someone could get a better sounding quality version off of Snowy White's album. But you would also get other stuff that you may not like at all. So you would be buying it for one song. Where as with "Total Eclipse" you would get "PotW pts.1-2" with 4 cd's worth of rare/live Floyd. Even though some of the songs sound pretty crappy. But if you don't feel like paying $100 for TE (I only paid $80 back in 1994) then go with the Snowy White album. It's cheaper, and of course it sounds better.
