Thinking of this exchange made me curious to know what's behind comtemporary humankind decorating themselves with tattoos (I have a rose-entwined cross on my forearm), piercings and other gougings. :o
It's gotta be some instinctive need to prove our individuality, or something. Also to prove our bravery toward withstanding pain? Pierced nipples, pierced lips, etc.? Jesus, that's bravery. Pain happens with injuries and soforth, and we deal with it, but to go have a piercing done like that is having to anticipate the pain.
BTW, Byron, is your tattoo a Rosicrucian thing? Also, saw your aforementioned picture; you do cut a dashing figure, Monsoooer. Nice crotch-rocket too, glad to see you remain true to your Yankness in choosing good ol' "American Thunder".

Nah, nought to do with the Rose Croix, just the tattoo I chose as the one I'd least mind having on my flesh until my dying day. It keeps vampires away too.

My dad used to be a funeral escort in the 60s and he rode a full-kit Harley and I thought I'd carry on the tradition when I chose my motorbike. Actually, I just hate Japanese bikes, couldn't really ride a Ducati, didn't fancy the Triumph and the BMW never, ever had a chance.

My dad was a Harley man too. My brother has one of those Jap Ninja-screamers that do 0 to 150 in about 5 seconds, but I was always the family wuss. I had to have 4 wheels, so I did hotrods.

I can't believe I never saw this thread before. Anyway, true story but when a freind of mine got his peircing on a certain shaft, it was before the peircing fad had set in, and he told us at a less than discreet location, a convenience store. At first we didn't quite believe it, but he insisted that he had it done. Foolishly we joked "prove it" and there amongst costumers and clerks alike he whipped out his newly furnished plaesure stick.
