As far as i’ve heard, i believe it was mentioned that floyd were never influenced by tolkien, contrary to other bands (led zeppelin for example),
and when listen to the song, as you said i don’t connect it with lotr or other tolkien (crap), i mean, it has some meaning without placing it together with lotr…
