Piper vs. ASoS

Did anyone think about comparing these? I mean everybody thought of DSOTM vs. WYWH or AMLOR vs. TDB.

So I think this will be a cool thread. Vote for the one you like more.

Although I really like Piper, I had to vote for Saucerful of Secrets.

Piper is great. I started loving Pink Floyd for good after I first listened to it. You know, there are some powerful songs like Astronomy Domine and Interstellar Overdrive. ASoS is also great, a transitional work which has songs with very different styles. I love Set The Controls, Let There Be More Light, I love all its songs as well as Piper's.

Conclusion: for me, there's a draw.

I went with Saucerful. One of my favorite Pink Floyd albums. Piper is pretty good, but not on the same level as a Saucerful of Secrets. In my opinion.

I love Piper (especially the mono edition) but I prefer Saucerful, it's a fantastic album. The title-track, Set The Controls, Remember A Day, Let There Be More Light, and Jugband Blues which is a dark masterpiece by Syd.

I voted for Piper, because it has Syd as the predominating creative force, has more songs than Saucerful, and has Astronomy Domine and Matilda Mother on it. What more could you ask for on an album?

True; you could ask for a better mix. That is Piper's one shortcoming, I believe. I want that mono edition; if I got it, I could finally listen to Piper on headphones without being annoyed.

It had to be Piper, as much as i love Saucerful. The one problem i find with Saucerful is its transitional nature, and it seems just to be a collection of songs, rather than a full album, like Piper is.

Piper also has the major advantage of Pow R. Toc H. which is one of my favourite songs, (hence the name (oh, the P stands for Paul, and the F for Ferguson which is my real name, not for Pink and Floyd as you might have guessed)).

Saucerful has the best cover though, one of the most beautiful things in the world. My avatar comes from the inner art for set the controls... which is nice

I would have to say Piper on this one because it's more playful. Saucerful of Secrets borders on playful and serious, so it's harder for me to enjoy because it doesn't stick to one thing. Plus the title track is not very good on here... I like the Ummagumma Live version much better.

And of course, "Flaming" is a great song.

What's so great about the mono version of Piper? I've never heard it, but i would have presumed the stereo versio is better... What's the difference?

Well...the stereo version is good (it's what I have), but my assumption is that the mono version doesn't have some of the roughness of the stereo one because of poor shifting of direction. (I don't know the technical term--is it "panning"?)
