| Dare I say...respect for rap? Who's the most heard about rapper in music today? Yeah, that loud mouthed kid with the bleached hair who IS the real Slim Shady...now I have all of his albums...well, his three most popular ones, the second one outta curiousity I bought, it interested be so I bought the first one and just the other day I was at Sam Goody buying "Piper At The Gates Of Dawn." Since I lost my other copy and I ran into his new Album. Mind you, I hadn't really planned on buying the new record...the kid is funny and controversial but he gets boring. Something about rapping about how shitty his mom and ex-wife is gets a little bleh and I had heard the new single "Without Me." and I figured it was going to be exactly that. Well, I was wrong. I did buy this album and I listened to it on the way home and listened to the first song I think called "White America." Freaked the bejesus outta me, it sounded kinda like rock...when I got home I popped it in again and listened while I typed away happily at my computer only to find the Aerosmith song "Dream on." I practically fell outta my chair when that song started up and was amazed at what I was hearing! This guy was giving a nod to rock and I figured there MUST be a hype somewhere on the internet about this...and there was. Hell, Eminem was giving nods to Aerosmithm, Zepplin and Hendrix! This guy I thought was only just a protest rapper that happened to be making a shit load of money from bitching about his life...but he's a protest rapper that happened to be making a shit load of money from bitching about his life who loves rock. He's one of the only rappers I know of... (he's the only one I listen to) who would admit to that without rapping about weed and booty. Sure, no mention of Floyd but it was good enough for me to start liking the guy a little bit more. This isn't necissarily respect for ALL rap, but it got me to realize that Slim Shady is just like you or me, the only catch is he gets paid for yelling at everyone. The song with Dream On is called "Sing for the moment." Now...what do you guys think about Eminem and Aerosmith on the new album? |
