Re: Mason appears at Waters gig

Thanks for the welcome, BoaB!

To Radiochair, I meant no implication that the "architects" are not proper musicians. It has to do with the approach to songwriting.

"Architect" refers to the conceptual drive and lyrical focus, and the music is to serve the lyrics, not the other way around.

"Musician" refers to the more free-form playing style, with the music coming ahead of lyrics. Concept is sometimes put aside.

Though there's a bit of overlap (Mr. Wright has some conceptual inclinations, for instance), it's the difference in the approaches towards songwriting I'm referring to--NOT talents of the players.

Arrow Wow!

I never thought I'd see it coming, I didn't think Nick and Roger communicated... at all! Not since Roger left the band in '85. It's good to hear that they played together on stage after all these years! A reunion would be nice as well. I have hope for the future!

Doesn't it get you guys that Dave, Rick and Nick went through all that hassle, court cases etc, to claim the right to use the Pink Floyd name, and in the near twenty years since have come up with just a couple of albums. Their attitude now seems to be that they really couldn't give a toss about floyd. Just seems such a wasted opportunity. Unless of course they realized they just can't cut it without Roger's lyrics!

This isn't correct. Wright has repeatedly stated that he wants to do a new PF album and Nick always sounds ready to start something new. The main problem is Gilmour. David seems more interested in his family and his childrens and apparently he can't be bothered with the pressure of a long time in a recording studio and, first and foremost, a long time performing a world tour. Yes, it's a wasted opportunity IMO but after all, it's just HIS life.

The solution is quite obvious IMO - that particular flavour of possible revenge would be sickly sweet: Rick and Nick should hire Roger, as strictly a session contibutor you understand, to fulfil the lost dream of having an ex-Floyd on the sidelines and write songs for the jobbing band, and produce a new Floyd Album, at the very least. Not much hope of a tour.

Rick and Nick get a PF album out, Roger gets writing credits - as usual - and David gets a greedy little cut. Sweet.

Sometimes my brilliance amazes even me.

Exit Fantasyland...

... now!

Re: Mason appears at Waters gig

In the end, I think it's OK if Mr. Gilmour decides he wants to focus on family. I can understand the impulse. If the creative pressures build up enough for Mr. Wright, he might move ahead on that rumoured solo album (unsubstantiated rumour, mind you). That would probably be enough for me. And who knows? With Internet coverage as extensive as it is now, perhaps sales would be better! Maybe a few small shows could happen...but that's just dreaming.

And so was The Final Cut. And Animals and The Wall were a band of two.

Re: Mason appears at Waters gig

I wouldn't call the final cut a band of one. Gilmour is there and Nick was still drumming solo on alot of it.
Animals was all Nick and Rick on drums and keys.
