| Re: Mason appears at Waters gig It wasn't very clear. What's the point? That there is more of pink floyd on amlor than on Animals or final cut? Not true. |

| Re: Mason appears at Waters gig Roger himself makes the point for me: "So as far as I'm concerned, *Wish You Were Here* was the last Pink Floyd album. *The Wall* was my record and so was *The Final Cut*, and who played or didn't play on it - though I don't want to belittle Dave's contributions to *The Wall*. He played some great stuff, and wrote a couple of great guitar riffs as well: 'Run Like Hell,' the intro to 'Young Lust.' But by and large, those records were nothing to do with anybody but me. And certainly Ezrin's contribution to *The Wall* was far greater than anybody in the band. He and I made the record together. And he was a great help. You know, Rick had drifted out of range by that point. "In 'Wish You Were Here,' we *weren't* there. All of us at different points had left, and I think in a way that's why it's a good record, because it honestly expresses that. The reason *The Wall* is a good record is because it's an honest autobiographical piece of writing of mine. And the machinery in place that enabled me to make that record was good. But it was only machinery by then; There was no question of there being a *group* anywhere. And the same with *The Final Cut*."

"And the monkey in the corner...hah... He's slowly drifting out of range." Wait a minute!!! ![]() I'm beginning to wonder if one facet of ATD is to mock the current Floyd. According to Nicholas Schaffner, one of the original cover designs for ATD was by Gerald Scarfe and showed three "familiar looking" men drowning in a martini glass. Especially with that SOYCD/Echoes mockery at the beginning of "What God Wants, Part III" (the same song with that line!). Furthermore, it was supposed to say, "Stop it, Dave", but they could only do that in concert because Stanley Kubrick wouldn't let them on the album. Who knows? Could this be a different level to ATD--shots fired at each Floydian? ![]()

| Re: Mason appears at Waters gig It certainly wouldn't be out of character. Roger has always had this passive/aggressive thing for sniping at his associates and others within his lyrics: "grand piano to prop up my mortal remains"=slap at Rick. "the tide is turning, Sylvester" = Stallone "Lloyd-Webber's awful stuff..........and breaks his effin' fingers"=self-explanatory. "Each man has his price, Bob, and yours was pretty low"=slap at Bob Ezrin. "we drove our racing cars"....probably a slap at Nick, Dave and Steve O'Rourke for their participation in La Carrera Panamericana, instead of humping protest signs at a Greenpeace rally.

| Re: Mason appears at Waters gig Oh, and don't forget Yoko Ono... Not to mention the CORNER could be a reference to a stage setup!!! I think it was not a smart way to handle things, for someone who seems to prize those of a more direct nature. --------- Of course, we do have to remember in all discussions about ATD that this was ten years ago. The existence of this thread proves that people do indeed change. It's the ones who DON'T who have a problem.

Hey, Stratman! Chuck looks like a choirboy in that picture. Anyway, that line about the grand piano is about Roger himself, isn't it? He is talking about writing songs on the piano, I thought. Is it Rick with the nicotine stains? Well, maybe it is. He does mention a silver spoon on a chain. A Cocaine type reference. However, he did protect Rick at the time. He didn't say ANYTHING about Wrights' loss of interest or ideas to the press until much later when the whole thing came down. I guess you might say he was protecting the floyd image. I think it protected Rick, though. The Bob was Dylan. He has said so. It did fit with Ezrin, too, but it was Dylan he was referring to because he was singing like Dylan at the time. And who could forget Yoko? That was a classic put down. |

| Re: Mason appears at Waters gig Mr. Waters' silence was probably part of the "deal" the two of them cut, wouldn't you think? They probably both wanted that as one of the "conditions". I think neither of them wanted the media to go into a feeding frenzy, as they're usually wont to do with celebrities.

Smart is slapping someone in the face who slaps you first. I suppose good Christians would turn the other cheek. Maybe America should turn the other cheek in this attack. If Bush is such a Christian. ? |
