AGES ago. Forget it. You will never see Syd on stage again. Now if there's a *small* chance Roger is going to perform with Pink Floyd again (never say never), Syd *can not* sing nor play guitar again. He just cannot choose. Roger and the others can.

Welcome McFloyd, and isn't it wonderful that our musical faves are still able to knock it about?

Ole Nick is surely giving us fans something to think about.

Here's hoping you have a good time on the best PF site going. [WARNING!: Beware the dreaded duplicate new post (DNP). :o ]

Roger being solo

Roger will NEVER rejoin Pink floyd for a huge tour etc as he has stated many times that the big stadium tours drove him mad. He has just finished his tour and it was fantastic and proved what a great man he is and that the smaller shows are so much better then the huge stadium gigs of yesteryear, plus he seems so happy now. His solo work is of such fantastic quality and "amused to death" is so much better and a more complete album then the " Division bell " could ever hope to be. He was the wriiting force in the band and they seem lost for a direction now.

Uh, Roger has stated lots of things and subsequently contradicted them.

And as for his work being of "so fantastic quality" this is highly questionable. An Roger himself seems to agree judging from the amount of solo songs during his shows.

hmmmm

I have to say I agree with mad yannis on this one.

No matter how many songs you see in a CD credited JUST to Roger Waters it will never be the full story. Roger may have written the basics for the songs but Gilmour, Mason, and Wright made the songs what they are. I find it doubtful that Waters wrote the Lead Riffs and Drum Patterns and even Hammond chords note for note. People have to adjust songs to suit their style and it is this process that makes what is known as the Pink Floyd Sound.

The fact that Waters shows consist mainly of wall songs and the spectacular Dark Side Of The Moon (and of course not forgetting the amazing Shine On), does seem to suggest that although there was friction between the band members the creative output that existed between them in the 70's was by far better than anything he could write on his own.

To be honest I find that the best songs on The Wall are mainly the ones that Gilmour co wrote such as Comfortably Numb (which began as a song on Gilmours solo project), Young Lust and Run Like Hell.

I have to say that my judgement is probably not the best for the subject. Being a guitarist I have a slight favoritism towards Gilmour. While Waters can write many a masterpiece, Gilmour can by far write the more melodic and emotionally driven songs.

As much as I'd like to see a full Floyd reunion it will not happen and Nick Mason playing for Roger does not surprise me in the slightest. There was never a big rift between the two musicians. Mason simply went along with what he enjoyed most - being a Floyd.

Re: Nick Mason at Roger Waters concert in Wembley

I'd disagree with one thing that GeeDub said. In the show that I saw, there seemed to be a pretty good ratio of solo/floyd songs played versus solo/floyd songs released. You must remember that he released far fewer solo albums than floyd albums.

A live box set, with 7 CDs:

CD 1: Stuff that was done with Syd - the BBC sessions are probably the best place to grab masters for these.

CD 2: Complete Pompeii show.

CD 3: A DSOTM show - didn't the BBC record one?

CDs 4 and 5: A complete 'In The Flesh' show, with songs from Animals and WYWH.

CDs 6 and 7: ITAOT. I know I would buy it again if it came with this set!

Sorry for dreaming... it just sounds like a great idea.

it is a great idea. ive been saying it forever, pink floyd NEEDS to release some of their older live recordings! you know they have them.

as well as the wall live dvd. a must. and id die to have 'in the flesh tour' and 'live at pompeii' on cd, in a really great storm ferg package. dream on.....

Re: Nick Mason at Roger Waters concert in Wembley

I had the priviledge of seeing PF play in Miami in 94 then I flew up to Atlanta and caught the show twice! There is nothing more I would like to see than a full reunion tour, so that i can introduce my daughter and girlfriend to the music that helped shape me.

Now I also want a Ferrari Enzo and that aint gonna happen any time soon, soooo...
