| Seriously guys and gals, while rock is taking its dying breath, and hip-hop, new age metal, and meaningless blabbing floods the radio and television waves, it's hard not to notice what I'm talking about. I really hate an abundance of this new music and it is an outrage that music is now based on image and sex appeal. Where's the talent? Songwriters such as Waters, McCaurtney, Lennon, Garcia, and Bob Marley have written some of the world's most fantastic pieces of music because it touched on aspects of human life, and the time period. That and some of it was for political reasons as well (Marley's music specifically as well as Dylan's "Hurricane"). And what is this new music about? It's about absolutely nothing. While some bands remain out there writing meaningful lyrics (Mayer, Radiohead, Yorn, etc.), other bands are just putting forth minimal effort to mass-produce literal lyrics without depth or meaning for any sort of improved existence. I suppose this could be an online petition for the masses that maybe the underground poets, the writers, the Dylan's, the Morrison's will rise up and bring forth a movement to bring real music back to the masses. I demand an end to Britney Spears and bubblegum pop, I demand an end to StainD's whining, and every other band who doesn't know what the f*ck a guitar, drum, or even piano solo is. In hopes of a better, metaphorical world, lucifersamradio

![]() I demand that your next lot of pointless rantings be included in ONE thread making as many separate posts as needed so they can be ignored in one fell swoop. Fed-up Floydian, Byron

| I don't know, I used to be just as furious as Lucifer not too long ago...now, if something i don't like comes up, i just try to ignore it and listen to the beat or something...rather soothing. And lately, I don't know, seems to me like pop *is* on it's decline...I think everyone's had enough of the prefabricated boy stuff and Brittney Spears...God bless her heart, she's gorgeous, but extremely overexposed (eh, both literally and figuratively) and I know I'm definitely sick of seeing her everywhere. Ms. Spears' acting career is a whole nother thing altogether.. |

| Oh, you have it wrong, totally. I am very much in agreement with you in being in disgust at what passes for music and musical talent these days when it's all just manufactured, rehashed guff which the record-buying youth of today believe is original stuff. They're as ignorant now, as I am sure many of us were in our days of teeny enthusiasm. Perhaps POP and ROCK are spent forces. Perhaps not. I think it's alive and healthy. It may be more difficult these days, but there ARE indeed contemporary performers whose work will indeed stand the test of time. To each their own. You just wait until you have kids whose musical tastes differ so wildly from that of today, you'll wish they WERE into what will undoubtedly become classic Britney. :o Now, there's a thought. p.s. I WAS getting pissy, but it was about your abused freedom of speech in adding not one, not two but three similar ranting new posts. This makes for very tedious scrolling and just imagine what those without broadband think of it.

| Thanks guys... Bride, you are correct, and I definately find you intellectually stimulating. LOL, who would have thought my musical tastes are that of my parents as well. And yes, I know that music will get sh*ttier as the years go by, but it's what the kids will grow up to. That's them, but of course I will always offer them a bit of my nostalgic past. And you thorin, I agree with your talks of pop and rock civil war. I know there's always been pop, but man I love the old pop. The new pop is what I refer to as bubblegum pop because its soft...too soft....like bubblegum. Capisce?

| Anyways Bride... The reason I posted three different posts is because I wanted the posts to reach out to individual, specific tastes, and not be so general. So you were getting pissy at a proposed, "good" idea.

| Thorin, I'd like to agree, but I disagree, this stuff is much much softer than anything earlier. Even The Carpenters aren't bubblegum pop, and you know how soft they are...and good.
