I'll rush out and grab that GnR real soon. For sure.

I got one: Funkadelic with Eddie Hazel on guitar. Almost as good as GnR.

KULA SHAKER: K; Peasant Pigs And Astronauts (this one recorded at Astoria studios with PF instruments and Bob Ezrin as producer). Their influences are Pink Floyd, psychedelic Beatles and Deep Purple, listen to these guys!

TOM WAITS: Big Time; Alice; Rain Dogs; Blue Valentine and all the rest. A genius, a real poet, a fine musician.

YANN TIERSEN: Amelie From Montmartre OST

ALANIS MORRISSETTE: Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie

FABRIZIO DE ANDRE': Creuza De Ma; Rimini; Anime Salve; Non Al Denaro Non All'Amore Nè Al Cielo.

FRANCO BATTIATO: Gommalacca; La Voce Del Padrone; L'Imboscata.

And also Queen, Bowie, Beatles, Velvet Underground, Deep Purple, Dire Straits, Smashing Pumpkins.

I really don't like Dire Straits. Most of their songs sound exactly the same.

Roger plays Dire Straits over the PA before he comes on. It surprisingly works well.

Cheers,

Mark

Telegraph road is a great song. Most of Mark Knoplers solo work is excellent also ... try and listen to his last album 'Sailing to Philadelphia' if you ever get the chance.

As for Kula Shaker ... they were very good I saw them at glasto. back in 1999 and they were really good (shame they are no more ... My favourite song of theirs is probably Great Hosannah the opener on PPAA). Chrispian Mills is hopefully going to release a solo album soon ... i've been waiting over 2 years for it now

My recomendations would have to be (many of my recomendations have been made on other peoples posts on this thread) ... Patti Smith (Horses, Easter and Gone Again), PJ Harvey (To Bring You My Love and Stories from the City Stories from the Sea), Gomez (All three of their albums are v good in my opinion and well worth a listen), REM (I know someone mentioned Murmur - their debut which is excellent but you should also have a listen to Lifes Rich Pageant, Up, New Adventures ...., Out Of Time and Automatic ...), Primal Scream (Xtrmntr and Screamadelica), Faithless (Reverance), Massive Attack (Blue Lines and Mezzanine) and Ian Brown inc. Stone Roses albums (not everyones cup of tea I know but I really like his new album ... Music Of The Spheres and Unfinished Monkey Business).

Carl

Dire Straits best live

I'm a big Knopfler/D-S fan. I think Mark's live albums are better than his studio ones. Try the live albums "Alchemy", "Live At The BBC" or "On The Night".
One sidebar, his song "Done With Bonaparte" on the Golden Heart album is different (very folksie), but has (to me) interesting lyrics on a par with Roger's.

Last time I checked his web site 2 months or so ago; he was still a solo artist ... and I saw him in December 2000 in Oxford. Now it seems his solo page www.crispianmills.com has been taken down and he's joined that jeevas band. Things move fast in 3 months with him concidering i'm normally used to him releasing material every 2 1/2 years.

About Dire Straits, I only have a compilation (Money For Nothing) and I never listened to all of it. Most songs I've heard sound exactly the same and that pissed me off!!!

Yeah, just got it. At the least, I can say it is a fresh look on an old favorite.
