Re: Music Recommendation Thread

"Sweeping, epic music that sounds almost as good as it did in the Bunnymen's pomp – almost good enough, in fact, to forgive them for spawning any number of stadium-pleasing bands since.

Yup, the Mac is back and he and fellow Bunnyman Will Sergeant have not sounded this fired up since Ocean Rain in 1984. "Read it/ Wrote it/ Heard it/ Spoke it/ Made it/ Broke it," he sings on "Don't You Know Who I am?". And the sad truth is most kids today don't. Others will be dusting down their tweed coats in celebration."

"Performing their classic album Ocean Rain last year and acquiring a new rhythm section and producer (Busted man John McLaughlin) seems to have rejuvenated the Bunnymen. Their most accessible offering in a long time sees Ian McCulloch at his most lyrically *playful and cocksure, hovering between confessional ("I cried a fountain dry") and mischievous, and firing off one-liners as if it were the band's 80s heyday. Will Sergeant's guitar-playing is at its scintillating best, although it is piano that backs the album's most *enduring moment, the tearily anthemic The *Idolness of Gods. There's nothing as brooding as The Killing Moon, nor as weird as Turquoise Days – but their *poppiest tunes since Bring On the *Dancing Horses could win the Scouse veterans a new generation of fans."

Re: Music Recommendation Thread

Welcome back, Cheesus. I'd hoped the resurgence of the Bunnymen and Echo might inspire your return.

.......once rumoured unable to sing on his records b/c he has no teeth, veteran rocker Robin Trower not only performs his own vocals on his latest 2009 release What Lies Beneath, he also proves he can still play a mean guitar.

Re: Music Recommendation Thread

if you like to chk out music featuring Pink Floyd alumni/support players (b/c we know the boys only werked w/ the best), Thin Lizzy's 1980 release Chinatown features new recruit Snowy White on gtr(he also plays on 1981's Renegade). This was the band's 10th studio release and Snowy helped to re-establish the gtr interplay that was the defining trademark of the classic Lizzy sound.
