Question Elitist or not - time for a soulsearch

I consider myself a pretty reasonable guy and I don't often flame people, but when it comes to music snobs - elitist people if you will - I just can't stop myself from reacting.

I have a brilliant example; The swedish band Kent (Don't think they're very big overseas, but you may have heard of them) is like our equivalent to... say, Radiohead. Kent are without a doubt the most respected band in this country. But it was only a few years ago that they were the kind of band that got excellent reviews, a few hardcore fans, but not really big enough to truly be accepted by the majority. They were still underground.

Recently their new album came out and whoop-de-do, they had abandoned that trademark cynical style and become a much "warmer" band. Many fans were disappointed and suddenly their hardcore fans were calling the band sellouts. The band's first single was a big, big hit and even though the fans couldn't deny it was a bad song, they hated the fact that this attracted a new set of fans. Every new member of a certain Kent message board seemed to be a "poser" in some people's eyes. You wanna talk about elitist my friends, that was beyond elitist - it was bullshit.

Some people truly despise ALL songs by artists that often get radio hits. It is, of course, often younger people that say stuff like "I hate that song" only to say a few seconds later about another song, "I love that song". There's no 'in between' anymore, either love or hate...

Tell me HONESTLY; what are you like? Would you admit it if you really liked the new Britney song? A Jennifer Lopez song? A freakin' Scooter song? (hehe) And please tell us what you think about the elitist phenomenon. Am I overreacting or does it bother anyone else too? Thanks for reading and sorry for ranting a bit there.

With a simian bent? Extra digits, compound eyes? Baggy-bag-like hymens, swaying in the wind like so Kmart bags?

Driven?

"Why are you running away?"
