Question I need some PF Recommendations...

Ok i'm new here so if this is the wrong place to post this, go easy on me.

I'm a big Floyd fan but i'm only familiar with DSOTM, WYWH, The Wall & Echoes. I really want to find some more of their music that is similar to DS & WYWH. What albums could you guys recomend? I was thinkin either Meddle or Animals but I figure you guys would know.

I would love to here some more Welcome to the Machineish type songs... really tripped out. I heard momentary lapse of reason and i just thought that was really terrible compared to classic Floyd. But any recommendations would be much appreciated. thanks!

Animals , Meddle, Obscured by clouds. You may love or hate the final cut. Personally, I like Animals.

Those are the logical next step, frankly.

However, it may be advisable to pick up 'Echoes: The Best Of Pink floyd' (2001). You may find it a pretty good intro to PF and it'll give you an indication of which albums to invest in next. Unfortunately, it somewhat misses out Obscured By Clouds, which is a shame, as it contains some really vital Floyd and remains something of a 'culty' fan favourite. And yes, Animals is a good album also (being the bookend to The Golden Period), but after the profligate production values afforded to earlier albums such as (especially) DSotM, you may find it somewhat, um, mean in both sound and spirit.

Cheers and belatedly, welcome.

Mark

Re: I need some PF Recommendations...

Thank you guys for the advice, I much appreciate it. Yeah I got Echoes: the best of pink floyd & i really like the songs on there from Animals & Meddle, but like you said echoes doesn't mention anything about obscured by clouds. So thanks for the info. Animals, Meddle & Obscure i will be gettin next. Thanks a lot.

Re: I need some PF Recommendations...

Yeah, sorry- I didn't notice that you'd mentioned it in your previous post.

Cheers man,

Mark

ps- 'Works' is a really good sampler for their less well known stuff and 'Relics' is good for digging some of the earlier, less proggy stuff.

Re: I need some PF Recommendations...

No! Don't! It'll be a partial waste of money! Avoid anything after '83 (he said, grudgingly) that appears to studio based. Is all pap. Also, 'Ummagumma' is a bit shit and 'A collection of...' is frankly rubbish.

Cheers,

Mark

Re: I need some PF Recommendations...

I bought 'A Collection of Great Dance Songs' just because it had such a great title & cover.

I think that also "P-U-L-S-E" is a must-have.

Or "Delicate sound of thunder"...

Oh, come on... you have to admit that referring to 'Money,' which is in 7, as a 'great dance song' is pretty funny.

Re: I need some PF Recommendations...

Could I go as far as to trouble you guys for a list of Floyd cds i should/need to get, and a list of ones to avoid at all cost. I was warned about ummagumma & the final cut before i think.
