| Re: First PF album? Dark Side of the Moon was my first album. As well as Delicate Sounds of Thunder (Disc Two) Which I got from my brother, but all I liked on it was One of These Days, and Wish You Were Here. I wasn't the most hardcore fan, although I loved Dark Side of The Moon! I just didn't understand why Delicate Sounds of Thunder sounded like that, at the time. On the other hand, my first Pink Floyd song ever heard, before all that, was Shine on you Crazy Diamond (Part 1-9). I dunno what it was, but I craved more, and more songs from that artist (not knowing the name of the band that composed the song). When I finally found out who the artist was, I began my collection. What was rather odd, was that only a few months after getting Shine on you Crazy Diamond, my brother showed up with Dark Side of the Moon. It's like something told him "Get this for bro!" I fell off my chair the first listen to Dark Side of the Moon. I still listen to each album over, and over. I just can't get enough! Then someone linked me this site, where other nuts reside. I'm in heaven! I just recently fell into a little bit of a 'boredom' towards Pink Floyd, only listening sometimes. I began to explore the bands I used to listen to lots, before meeting with the Floyd. Nirvana, Incubus, Matthew Good Band, Weezer, Silverchair, The Offspring, and Radiohead. Although, I did listen to Radiohead while I was only listening to Pink Floyd. Nirvana was my first favorite band. I was 9 when I was introduced to them, first album was Nevermind. Hey! Isn't this about my first Pink Floyd album? It's just that, when I listen to Pink Floyd, or talk about them, it cheers me up, gets me into the most mellow mood. I just can't shut up, thier great! Really. Last edited by Wiggy; 04-06-2006 at 04:14 AM. |

The video for "Another Brick in the Wall" got me in when I was just a child at the beginning of the 80s. The animations scared me but in an exciting and intriguing way. Then, I heard the whole sequence "ABitW 1 - The Happiest Days - ABitW2" on the radio and I loved the special effects. I began to call this sequence "The Helicopter Song". By 1987 I caught the habit of listening to the radio first thing in the morning and one day I listened to a guitar solo and I inmediately thought about "The Helicopter Song". It was "Learning to Fly" and I began to investigate more and more about the band. My brother in law (13 years older than me) lent me copies of "The Wall" and "WYWH" and by then I was already a convinced Floydian listening to those two albums again and again and again. My first purchase was "Relics" on vynil when I was 14. At first I considered it to be a very weird album ("Interestellar Overdrive" was too much to me at the time) but I got into it little by little and it opened new perspectives on music in general for me. |

| Re: First PF Dark Side... and I have to credit those handful of dj's in the 70's who broke format to play one side of the album on air, or both. Back in the 70's you would have to have been under a rock to not know this album was going to break barriers whether you liked it or not. Of course I loved it, but I pity those that don't. |

Not in a malicious sense, mind, but in your very candid admission and summation about RELICS, echoing almost to the word my partner's review as it too was his first PF purchase. I am a fan of this one too and can easily identify with experiencing this as a first PF album at 14. Interstellar Overdrive IS heavy...but I like that anyway, so... Too funny. Bravo! |

| Re: First PF The first time I ever listened to Pink Floyd was in one of my middle school music classes. Our music teacher played Brick in the Wall Part 2. Ironic I know. |
