Post First PF

Much out of plain curiosity and a simple tendency to try out something new, i have decided to post a thread asking a simple question: What was the first album that you (the reader) purchased and what was it about it that engulfed you into the world of Pink Floyed (i.e. perticular song, style, etc).

I believe it was actually Echoes I heard first, which I loved. But my first purchase was Dark Side, which I loved even more. Works was soon to follow, I believe. I think the first time I heard "Breathe" I was in love. Songs like Echoes and Shine On cemented me into Floydian obsession that was a good question, by the way

I got 'DSotM' first, followed by 'WYWH', followed by 'Animals', followed by 'virtually everything I could lay my hands on.' I'd heard a lot of Floyd on the radio over the years, and I think it was the barely audible muttering on the DSotM tracks that first intrigued me--- and some brave DJ in San Diego played all 14 minutes of SOYCD 1-5, with which I was enthralled. When I got DSotM I experienced the "Aha!" syndrome and realized all those songs I'd been hearing on the radio actually fit together. It was neato.

that definitely sounds neato
i think for some reason discovering music backwards, chronologically speaking (that one finds a band that's say thirty years old and researches them from one point on) makes music more enjoyable, almost because it's very personal in a sense...like they made themselves known just to you. I don't know, could just be, call me crazy but, seriously don't, that would hurt my feelings j/k

Yes, i must agree with what you have said previously. It is especially true for me, being born only in '86 in russia (later moving to canada). I only discovered the group thanks my dad and not way one might get pressured from one of your peers to like a group, but as an independant journey. And, strangely enough, the first album was also DSotM (quite a trend). From that moment i tried to collect them all, starting from AHM. (those wacky cows!)

It would be simpler if we all got ON his back; that way he could tell us ALL to get off.
