Wright on the Wall

Anyone know which Songs RW played on "The Wall" album before being booted? I understand he's on " Another Brick 1 and 3.""Anybody Out There?", and "Run Like Hell." Anyone know if this is correct or not?

Blast--I should know this, but I don't. You'll have to ask one of the more informed trivia buffs on here.

But if you're curious as to what The Wall sounds like with Mr. Wright playing, you should try Is There Anybody Out There (provided you haven't already). It's a very worthwhile listen.

you should have named this thread "wrighting on the wall" so then you could have asked a question and fit in a cheesy, unecessary pink floyd pun.

You know, wouldn't you think if that guy had a dollar for every pun people made on his name, he would've been rolling in money before the Floyd ever got off the ground!

Thanks, I already have it. My source is the Pink Floyd Encylopedia by Vernon Fitch but I'm not sure.
Cheers

Sorry guys, but, to my knowledge, I seem to remember learning that Mr. Wright was forced to leave the band, and that happend during the sessions, but he was to leave the band AFTER the release of the album, so I assume he never quit the sessions.
Of course, though, all this resulted in a less enthusiastic participation and in a reduction of keyboard parts on the record.

I would bet that the few keyboard parts were mostly, if not all, performed by Rick anyway. My faves are the ones on Comfortably Numb, One Of My Turns, Nobody Home, Vera, the outro solo on ABITW II and the synth in the middle of Run Like Hell. And they all sound like Rick's hands!

I don't think he quit the sessions per se, but I do remember hearing he wasn't around all that much. I also think I remember hearing that another keyboardist was brought in and did some of the keyboard parts.

Mr. Wright wanted to finish out the concerts, and he got to do that...only after that did he disappear completely (until the middle of AMLoR, of course).

Rick wasn't even present at most of The Wall sessions. Bob Ezrin plays most of the piano parts on the album, and Freddie Mandell plays all the Hammond organ tracks. Roger finally gave Rick the ultimatim that either Rick went or the tapes went during the final sessions. Rick had no choice. For the tour, he was kept on as an employee and not a band member.

Dave ratified Roger's decision, and also suggested they do the same to Nick because he thought Nick wasn't up to the technical standards the group required for the show (ie he had trouble playing to a click track). But Nick and Rick surprised them both by doing a fantastic job on the tour, as you can hear on ITAOT.

Bob Ezrin. That DEFINITELY explains the piano on The Wall and why it's so similar to The Final Cut. Mr. Ezrin is a competent player...but I feel like he doesn't really take advantage of the range and sound of his instrument. Sometimes this can create a hollow, rather restricted sound.

I think I read somewhere that Mr. Gilmour did sort of volunteer to stand with Mr. Wright if he chose to stay...but it must've been rather halfhearted, because I don't think Mr. Wright was confident enough in what support he'd get, and chose to leave. Also, I think in the December 1999 issue of MOJO, Mr. Gilmour denies talking about sacking Mr. Mason. Well...I THINK he denied it...I'd have to look again.

(I imagine all issues must have been resolved later between the three of them, however.)

And yes. A FANTASTIC job on the tour. Immortalising forever the true worth of both players. A sort of victory, if you think about it.

If that's Bob Ezrin playing piano, then he's pretty good.

But I always thought that Rick played the synth intro to One of My Turns. It just sounds like him.
