That's a bizarre coincidence. Had no idea. Dave and Adie are cool, though. Have talked with them a couple of times now, really got their feet on the ground. Have some interesting stories, as well.

As for Bill Kirchen and Too much Fun; am looking forward to their next trip through here. They are a solid 3-piece group, and were nominated for a Grammy for their last cd. You may remember Bill from when he was with "Commander Cody and the Lost Airmen", and the hit song "Hot Rod Lincoln", which he wrote on the very Telecaster that he plays at his shows (all the finish has been worn off, so I am not sure what color the Tele was originally). Plays through a Fender amp. In my opinion (for what it's worth), B. Kirchen is the master of the "chicken pickin', truck drivin'"songs. If it weren't for Earl Scruggs latest cd (with his "Nash-Vegas" friends) I think they might have won that Grammy.

I listened to some Charlie Hunter the other day. Absolutely insane. I understand that he plays an 8-string? The man's hands have to be gigantic, especially if he uses his thumb to keep a bass line (I assume that's how he does it). His version of Spoonful wasn't bad.

Winged,

He isnt just useing his thumb for the bass lined because he uses two base string. There is no way his thumb would be able to reach both while still playing licks on the other siz guitar strings.

I beleive their is a website for him with some multi media, I think their is a few videos. Try and check them out, there is no way to describe it.

hey,

I am an avid guitar player. I have a fender stratocaster and i have hopes of getting a fender cyber twin amp. I play bass guitar as well, but the main focus for me is on the guitar. If anyone here knows any cool songs and has tabs for them please contact me.

Man: I could have sworn that I had posted on this thread, but I guess not....anyhow, here's me...

I have been plying since 1972 (I know, I'm old).

My current lineup is as such.

1980 Yamaha FG 75 accoustic. I string it with ultralights and have lowered the action a bit. great for accoustic blues and folk.

1982 Lotus Strat knockoff: Don;t laugh, this "cheapie" played well, IN 1992 I replaced the electronics with a EMG DG20 prewired pickguard, yes the Gilmour setup, sounded great. Why you ask, am I speaking in the past tense. Over the last few years this is the axe that I have managed to get covered in autographs, It now hangs on the wall in my den. Autographs include...
Jimmy Vaughan
Bo Diddley
Elvin Bishop
Long John Hunter
Lonnie Brooks
David Gilmour
B.B. King
Did I mention David Gilmour.......

1975 Fender Telecaster: My #2 axe. Love this guitar, bought it brand new in '75. It's been everywhere. Traditional Sunburst, maple neck.

1980 Fender Stratocaster: #1 axe. Arctic white with a tortoise shell pickguard, rosewood fretboard, jumbo nickel frets. I've filed the frets fairly flat, very low action, strung with lightweights. A Blues/Floyd machine. With the flat frets she slides like nobody's business.

I am in the process of building two guitars right now.

1) Telecaster: rosewood neck, deep blue transparent finish. Standard tele bridge pickup, Seymour Duncan 1/4 pound humbucker at the neck. Can't get no fancy notes on this one (Dire Straits reference).

2) Paul Reed Smith copy : Body and neck available from http://www.warmoth.com . Amber transparent finish, rosewood neck. three SD humbuckers, mid and neck position single coil switchable.

I run with three amps
1) Peavy Audition 20, small household amp.
2) Marshal Micro stack: 20watts 2 small cabs, good for small gigs.
3) Crate Blue Voodoo head: 120 watts, grab something and hold on tight.
3.5) Crate Blue voodoo cab: 4X12, Bottom two flush, top two 12 degree angle up. ....BOOM.

Too damn many effects pedals......

Damn Fulghum! You've got a kickass rig. Man you've got some badass guitars too, I'm trying to get a 70's strat, and try to configure it like Gilmour's guitar.

If you want to rig up like Dave Gilmour it's not too hard. Purchase a "Standard Strat" (Mexican mfg is OK), You can get into one for $300.00 to $500.00 or so (look for sales at Guitar Center).

Then (now here the important part) purchase the DG20 prewired pickguard from EMG. This is THE setup that Gilmour uses. It sounds so close it scary... The pickguard setup will run you around $350.00

Look at http://www.emginc.com

Have fun...

I have never tried to play an electric guitar, because I spend all of my money on MuSiC! (or books, or girls..or...)
But I have played an acoustic, which has been fun
I can also play the violin, and keyboards (RICK WAKEMAN, being my influence there.

Yes, twice. :o

Fulghum, you're the Senior Man!

How on Earth did you get Bo Didley AND B.B. King AND David to sign your guitar? Do you go to Live shows carrying it aboot, or what?

Elvin Bishop! Now there's a blast from the past and the producer of one of my all-time favourite non-PF songs. But you'll have to guess which one.

The first autograph I got on the axe was Dave Gilmour, during the pulse tour. I knew I had only one shot so I "exploited" a few connections that I had in Chicago. I know I joke around about my old band "The Blind Ducks" but we were well enough known (locally) that I still have a few "friends in the business". I made arrangements with PF management so I could meet Dave and get him to sign my guitar. I spent all of 5 minutes with him, very nice guy.

The rest, well I'm just spoiled....or married well take your pick (I think both). My wife works for a major Ski and Summer resort here in Salt Lake. I won't say which one but suffice it to say there are some "frosty foul" about the place.... She is the Senior Event Manager in the Entertainment and Special Events Department. Her biggest event during the summer is a three day "Jazz and Blues Festival". She's the boss, She's in charge.

Short story, I always get an all access pass. Backstage, Green room, you name it, I'm there. I earn my keep though, I am a photographer (among other things) so I always shoot the shows for them, I also help her select the talent for the upcoming years shows (she seems to trust my judgement for some reason). So, since I'm ususally in the greenroom anyway, I always bring the guitar and collect a few more autographs.....

Just a note to really push you over the edge Byron, when I got Elvins autograph, he refused to sign it...unless I played with him for a while... We jammed for almost 45 minutes.....

And I'd guess......"Fooled around and Fell in Love" is too obvious....

Calling all Cows???
Stealing Watermellons??
Goin' Fishin"???
or my personal Fave.....

Travlin' Shoes.
