Lap steel / Pedal steel

Hello ,

I was wondering... does anybody know the difference between lap steel and pedal steel guitars, and which one David used in High Hopes?

No I don't, but it's a good question. I've wondered the same (Re the difference) before myself.

I belive Gilmour was playing Pedal Steel in High Hopes...but I couldn't see any pedals (???) in the video.

In Pulse he uses a Fender Lap Stell Guitar, at least thats what I think it is, but then again, I might be wrong. I presume he uses it on The Division Bell aswell concidering that Pulse was the DB tour.

As far as the difference between a lap stell and a pedal steel, well I haven't a clue.

I think a lap steel is just the guitar-looking part, you know, without a stand or pedals, which goes on your lap.

A pedal steel has a stand and pedals.

However, this is just theory. I wouldn't be amazed to see that they were the same thing.

I don't think there would be a difference in sound.

If i had some money i would buy a slide guitar, so a week ago i went hunting, this is what i found:

This one is a general slide guitar site, it includes a clip of gilmour!

I put this one in because the lady looks funny, but i could be useful
http://www.well.com/user/wellvis/steel.html

These look kinda like the ones ive seen DG play, they got a whole load, so it probably tells you the differences between them all
