Question Changing Tides...

Hello People!!

As you can see I am new to the forum...From a very young age, I have always had a favorite Pink Floyd song...It normally changes every 2-3 years...I am wondering if any of you share "the changing tides" that I do...Although I can listen to any Pink Floyd album at any time of day, and be just as content..

Presently, it happens to be Dogs. Thanks guys!!

i find that to be the case with not only Floyd but with any band that I get into more extensively than a few singles. It's really hard to settle on just one with Floyd...as of now, probably Have A Cigar. Sheep was a fav for a long time. Then again, I suspect once I get my Saucerful and Piper back from a friend, the tides will turn again.

Well...for me, there are two songs that will always be on the top, as far as PF goes: "Echoes" and "Wearing the Inside Out". But the stuff under that comes and goes all the time.

Two songs steadily at the top for me too, two obvious ones: Echoes and Shine On. And Time completing the podium.

almost forgot to mention Echoes and Shine on...I mean, I just assume those as natural favourites...they're more so epics, just accepted works of art.

Dogs does it for me along with Set The Controls, I don't know about anyone else but the acknowledged classics tend to lose their shine a bit simply through overfamiliarity

It just seems that as life goes on...different songs take on new meaning for me. One song seems to stand out for a specific period in my life..For instance, ABITW, and Money were significant in early childhood...little later Wish you were Here, still later, Sorrow, On the Turning Away, Dogs of War, One Slip.. still older, the songs from The Wall...and now, like I said...veering back to the older albums....Animals...

That is true. WtIO did not always hold the meaning it does now, but things happened fairly soon after I became a Floyd fan that gave it the strong meaning it will always have. I don't think I really "got" it until those things happened.

Shine on is always up there. I always forget how good echoes is when im not listening to it, so thats a wobbly one.

At the moment No.1 is Seamus

I think about ¾ of PF songs ive heard have a one point been my favourite

WYWH has always been a favorite of mine, even if it currently isn't in heavy rotation, but yes, others have come and gone.

Yes, baby floyd...now that I think of it, I could have just said that too, instead of listing them like that...The other night I listened to Momentary Lapse of Reason...which I have not heard in a while...Enjoyed it thoroughly.

lol baby floyd you must be joking, Seamus is a bit of a joke song. yeah it's a likeable song but how can that be your favourite out of all Floyd tracks ever?!?!

anyway, although i know that Echoes and Shine on are great epic tracks and probably the best masterworks ever, i rarely have any desire to actually listen to them. i always prefer to hear shorter and more simple songs. and most of the time if i do actually listen to these epics it is usually a bootleg. perhaps it's because all the novelty has gone out through previous frequent listening, but now i just wish that i could erase my memory of Echoes and listen to it for the first time over again.
come to think of it, it's just like my favourite films, wouldn't you just love to watch them again like the first time? sigh...

Odd. The novelty NEVER goes out of "Echoes", for me...

I'm always rotating thru the PF catalog too. My hallmark standard fav's are Shine On, Time, Run Like Hell, CN, et. al.----but right now I'm into the "Relics" compilation album. That run of songs; Julia Dream, Careful....., Cirrus Minor, Nile Song and Biding My Time is my current obsession.
