Re: Dave's kids

It's from the song "That Kind Of Woman", written by George Harrison and performed by George and Eric Clapton.

If you get a chance to listen to it, do. It really rocks out. At least, IMO.

Re: Dave's kids

It's on an album called "Nobody's Child" apparently. Might have to go looking for it.

So...in the past few hours I've decided I need to buy:
Obscurred By Clouds;
In The Flesh (DVD); and;
Nobody's Child (various artists)

This place is running me broke (but my music collection thanks it from the bottom of it's heart).

Re: Dave's kids

You're right. The "Nobody's Child" CD is a result of the "Romanian Angel Appeal", a charity organized by the wives of the Beatles (Olivia Harrison, Barbara Bach, Linda McCartney and yoko Ono) to help thousands of Romanian orphans in 1990. George Harrison put together the album using donated songs by various artists.

I heard the song "That Kind Of Woman" on the radio and had to have it, so I found a copy on ebay. There are several great songs on it. I'm glad I got it.

And Driven, you will not regret getting the ITF Live DVD. I think you'll like OBC, too.

Re: Dave's kids

I'm not an early Floyd fan.

Still haven't got around to buying it.

It's not like Piper, AHM, or Saucerful. And neither is it like DSotM, WYWH, or Animals.

Re: Dave's kids

Isn't Gilmour a bit over-the-hill to bring up a new baby? He's nearly 60! He'll be dead soon!

Re: Dave's kids- Alice Gilmour

I mentioned in my intro post to this site (Welcome to the Machine thread) that I am an educator here in Vermont, and once had a secretary who had previously been Alice Gilmour's department secretary when she attended college in Middlebury Vermont- anyway, this seemed like the best thread to post this little story- in fact, if he remembers, I emailed gilmourwhore about it when I first heard it a couple of years ago.

Now, this comes with a disclaimer- because it is second hand info, and I cannot confirm it all to be true, just going on the secretary's word (although, I've no reason to doubt her on it either).

Dave sent his oldest daughter to college here in Vermont in the late 1990's-
- right here in my little state of Vermont at Middlebury College, a little D2 school in a town of around 10,000 people, it's a pricy little sub Ivy type you will find in all of the Northeastern states (i.e Skidmore, Vassar, Williams, Bowdoin, Bates, etc).

I can't remember what she majored in- some kind of science/math/computer thing I think- but the secretary of the department she was in later became my secretary in 2002-2003. She encountered Alice a few times, and told
me some interesting stuff-

as gilmourwhore mentioned, she even had her own webpage on the
college site but this has since been taken down since she graduated- on it she lavished all sorts of attention on her family- but never mentioned Dave once.

apparently Alice, and possibly the other children from his first marriage,
became estranged from Dave when he divorced Ginger and remarried. Alice always played down that she was Dave's daughter and never mentioned it unless asked. The secretary remembered hearing that she "wanted nothing to do with him", and Dave did not come to her graduation, I'm pretty sure of that. (according to the secretary, he was paying the bills though!)

I don't know if they have reconnected or not since then, I believe she moved to Europe after she graduated.

The upshot of this is that I believe that one of the reasons why Dave has been against doing another big tour is that he realizes the damage that being out on the road did to his first family, and that he does not want to do that again to his second family, and you can't blame him for that.
