Nay, America decided along time ago, that in order to completely severe its ties from the King, it needed its own version of English. A much simpler version was born because of it. That's all.

Affair between Sarah Gilmour and Harry Waters!? That's whacked! I doubt it's true though, the media just like to cause chaos between David and Roger.

OK Driven, I see your point except for the American Football player part. I can think of no sport full of bigger wimps (well maybe golf), than soccer, er football. Watching the World Cup, I saw more grown men cry than at well, I don't know, never seen that meny cry, and its a nearly no-impact sport.

hmmm, I wonder if anyone will ever actually answer the original topic of this thread?.......nah, probably not. I will say though, it is always enjoyable to follow the obscure ramblings-on that develop (like American linguistics and soccer/football) Peace everybody! Shine On!

My brief encounter with things British and colourful language was when I had a 65 Austin Healey 3000 . I had the Brit repair manual (often needed). The language differences become really apparent when you are dealing with tools and car parts. Some I remember: Hood(US)=bonnet(UK); top(US)=hood(UK); trunk(US)=boot(UK); fender(US)=wing(UK); wrench(US)=spanner(UK); rearwindow(US)=backlight(UK), etc., etc. Almost every car part has a different name or is spelled differently...tire/tyre, carburator/carburetter, etc. Reminds me of a joke that anyone who ever owned a British sportscar can relate to: Q:Why do the British drink warm beer? A: Because Lucas builds refrigerators. Last edited by stratman; 07-27-2002 at 03:52 PM.

That's interesting. I once called the lid of a trunk the 'rear decklid', and my freind called me a 'British fag'. Little did he know that I was able to bust out the facts and show him in at least 3 different American car magazines where Americans called them 'rear decklids'. I dunno what this has to do with the subject, but it's an amusing little story.

| OK, back to topic I have a picture of Dave holding Alice (eldest) when she was an infant. (taken 1976)--therefore, my best guess for Gilmour-kid ages is: Alice----------26 years (mother=Ginger) Clare---------23 years Sara----------20 years Matthew----16 years Joe----------- 7 years (mother=Polly) Gabriel-------4 years Romany------4 months Charlie------12 years(Polly's son by former marriage--adopted by Dave) Damn good thing Dave is rich! | It is a good thing Dave is rich, he's got a huge family to look after (although the older ones could contribute, considering they are of working age Are there any pictures of his children by the way? "Plodding along with life, watching as it flies by..." Red Bull has wings! |

On the subject of photos I do know of at least one photo of Alice, which was sent to me some time ago by an intrepid Floyd fan. It used to be on the site for her school. In fact, once upon a time, Alice had a webpage up on the school's site. I found out about it when someone posted the address to a Yahoo! Club I moderate. I admit, I visited it out of curiosity (to be fair, only the address was posted, no other details were given. It wasn't until I read into the site and had clicked on a few links that I realized just who this was). I was shocked and surprised to find it was Alice's own page. The links took one to photos of Sarah and Claire, and then on to Matthew's webpage. I went there twice, contemplated saving those photos or even posting this addy on my own site, then thought better of it. It actually felt like some weird form of stalking, or something. It even creeped me out so badly that I wrote an essay with that as the jumping-off point. (see http://www.gilmourwhore.com/gilmourj...ays/essay1.htm for the original essay) Unfortunately, some overzealous fans of her father's decided to contact her, and she had to take it down. I was surprised when David and Polly decided to publish the first photos of Romany Rose this year. I guess I thought they'd refrain from doing so, since she's just a wee thing and there might be some sort of security issues and whatnot... Then again, if I had a baby that beautiful, I'd be posting billboards with her image on it... I guess I'm jealous, too. And I think stratman's guesses on the kids' ages are pretty accurate - Matthew was a toddler in '87/'88, as seen on the PinkMovie video. But I thought Charlie was just a tad older than 9... Oh, why can't I get to my resource materials????? AAaaaaaaaaaargh!! Anyway, that's all I have to say on the subject for now. Are you still awake? LOL Cheers! GeeDub#1 Oh, and Happy Anniversary, David and Polly (not that they'll ever see it here...)!

Thanks stratman and GilmourWhore! Smashing info...my curiosity has been sufficiently satisfied. GilmourWhore, you're right about Charlie being older than 10; he's about 12. What was Alice's website all about? An "I'm the daughter of a Rock God" website? And PS: I don't think looking at pictures of the BDG's kids qualifies as stalking quite yet.

THX for the info on Charlie. I edited the post to reflect his "true" age. Of course, since Dave is very protective of his children's identities, etc., (and who can blame him?), it's hard to get accurate info. I would really love to see a family portrait of the lot of 'em.

Alice's website, ages, and more Truth be told, Meddling Echo, there was absolutely NO mention of her father on her site at all. She heaped loads of praise on her mother, her brother and sisters, and even on her uncle Mark, but didn't mention David once. All she spoke of was her hobbies, her general interests, and what a wonderful family she had, providing links to their webpages and so on. I was a little disturbed when I saw Matthew's page, I must say. His spelling was absolutely atrocious, and his language seemed a tad immature when I considered his age at the time (about 14 or so, I believe, as this was two years ago). In fact, in this article, David spoke about his distaste for certain schooling practices in the UK: http://www.gilmourwhore.com/gilmourj.../dailytele.htm Oh, and here are the ages of his kids with Ginger, based on info in that article (I've added the five years, since it came out in 1997): Alice: 26 Sarah:20 or 21(?) (I'm not sure, because of the wording in that article, so this is just a guess.) Clare:23 Matthew: 16 And stratman, I'd like to see that family portrait, too - but it'd probably look like those dreadful class photos they used to take of us in school! LOL Look! That dot is me! Anyway, that's all for now - I've got an early start ahead of me in the morning. Cheers! GeeDub#1
