No, I think he just dislikes bad music.

Sorry to step on your toes, fixxy, old pal.

Re: Poles Apart

You totally didn't man.

Driveny Boy, on the subject of only liking DSotM, that's not totally the case. OBC is fantastic and the second side of Meddle is sheer 70's genius. 'Dogs' is good too. Remember sitting in yer car that night pointing out our joint 'fave' bit?

And actually, a few tracks from More. The postcard that came with WYWH is pretty cool too.

Oh, and Relics.

Honestly,

Mark

Re: Poles Apart

Didn't mean to sound harsh champ.

Was just an observation in the last couple of weeks that I felt a growing need to mention.

Re: Poles Apart

That's fair enough man. I think that I'm a wee bit jaded on the Floyd front, truth be told. All I've got access to is 'Echoes, DSotM, Animals' and, er, that's it. So, as you can imagine, even the richest of sonic tapestries can become threadbare after protracted periods of time. It is true that a lot of Floyd isn't worth the flipping paper that it's printed on, but that's the latter era stuff that I don't listen to anyway. The 70's art rock stuff is still pretty untouchable, but I think that I need to dig some other stuff for a bit, to be able to appreciate it. It's tough when you actually enjoy being blinkered in your tastes...

92%,

Mark

"Poles Apart" has a peaceful flow to it, though with a dark meandering in the middle--to me, it reminds me of lost childhood. Before I knew anything about the band, I made the assumption that Mr. Gilmour had lost a son through some falling-out, and it was actually a search for mention of this supposed loss that first inspired me to look for more information on Pink Floyd. There is, of course, NO such loss that I'm aware of.

But that was my first thought. The whole song is bittersweet--have you ever lost a person, even if they turned against you, but not lost the love for them, or at least the pleasure you get from memories of better times? That's what I think it's about, and what that collage is highlighting.

What was it that you actually liked about this album, Floydwright?

Phantom Menace,

Mark

Re: Poles Apart

Isn't that album about miscommunication, and isn't that specific song about Roger Walters and David Glimor not getting along? Well have you ever been talking on the phone and all the sudden someone else's voice chimes in? The lines switch or something. I always thought of that part as some type of eerie line switching that had occured in the song, which can be related to Glimor and Waters.

Re: Poles Apart

Actually, NBv4, the song is part about Roger and part about Syd. The "golden boy" part is about Syd.
