P.C. Hitchhiking

So-named because it has so few racial slurs (just the one... that's not bad for a Roger Waters solo album!).

Just heard it for the first time. I put off buying it for a while because, well, I didn't think it would be worth it. But I saw it on for 9 bucks, and really, how can you argue with that. I sat and read the lyrics all the way through, then listened to it twice without stopping. It's not bad... a LOT like Final Cut, but with Eric Clapton instead of David Gilmour and more sex. It's not background music, you need to give it your full attention. All in all, it's held up okay so far. I'll probably get bored of it later.

Re: P.C. Hitchhiking

Oh yeah, the Holophonics sound good, at least as good as the remastered Final Cut (even though PCHH was never remastered). The packaging is a bit spartan, though.

Re: P.C. Hitchhiking

I had a hard time with it, myself. I suppose it's because I don't identify very well with the agressive (sp?) kind of love portrayed in it. Whereas I do think "Every Stranger's Eyes" and "A Moment of Clarity" are an excellent pair of songs. It's not enough, though, for me to want to get out the album too frequently. I also don't like Eric Clapton too much, in this.

Re: P.C. Hitchhiking

I've never heard it.

Should I get Pros and Cons or Amused to Death first? Or maybe Radio KAOS?

Re: P.C. Hitchhiking

I think Amused to Death is his best work, personally. If you don't mind the 80's, KAOS is worthwhile for an uplifting album. I really didn't think THAT highly of Pros and Cons, but I know that's a matter of individual taste.

Re: P.C. Hitchhiking

I haven't heard KAOS or ATD but if you like the production values of The Final Cut you'll enjoy PCHH. Cool use of voices and SFXs.

Re: P.C. Hitchhiking

Liking my Pink Floyd a bit harder, apparently, than most here...and being a dyed-in-the-wool Roger fan, AND having witnessed it performed Live, I LOVE it.

Sexual Revolution is my favourite track, and I have said it before, Eric Clapton isn't David but, come on... ERIC CLAPTON!!!

And Roger's later employment of the laudable guitar talent, Jeff Beck, shows his skill at choosing musicians for his work is unparalleled.
But his boat [race=face]? Yeesh!

Re: P.C. Hitchhiking

Definitely get Amused to Death first. As to Pros and Cons, you have to get into the right mood before you listen to it.

Re: P.C. Hitchhiking

To be fair, I only gave it one listen before I threw it out. I just couldn't get over the fact that it was Mother's melody throughout the entire album. TFC was definitely better, and as for solo works ATD is the only one of his I would recommend (not including his ITF live).

No argument there , although The Tide Is Turning from Radio Kaos is an excellent song.

I gave to Pros&Cons many, many more than one listen but I agree.
