How can a song even be considered a masterpiece piece when its central concept was not conceived by the writer, himself?

Personally, I don't like the version on the album, but there is this awesome outtake with an extra backwards sitar part which makes the song extra trippy. I think that maybe the band just listened to the Beatles a lot, and the backlog of lyrics stuck in their brains influenced their writing.

i doubt theres any real connection there. theres a saying that explains these kind of things...but i cant seem to remember it... but anyways youre looking way too deeply into this. im sure the band had no intention of copying the beatles in any way (they were well known for stating their desire to be independent, and original. i.e. the fact that they never did covers).

Re: Across the universe - The Beatles / Echoes - Pink Floyd It could be an unconscious rip off. Remember Waters' fascination with John Lennon?

Re: Across the universe - The Beatles / Echoes - Pink Floyd I was listening to Pigs the other day, and it reminded me of Dont Fear the Reaper... what with the cowbell and all. And if you look at the general point of Pigs, it's telling you that the people in authority (the "reaper' as it were) are nothing but a "charade".... or a fake.... so we shouldn't be afraid of them. Maybe it's just me, but does anyone else see the similarities between these two songs?? Also the fact that there's a guitar and drums in both of them..... ....uncanny, and I think that Blue Oyster Cult should SUE Pink Floyd for all the money they are worth........ or wait, maybe Pigs came first.... either way, there should be a big lawsuit involved. ....and someone should punch Martha Stewart in the FACE!!!

Re: Across the universe - The Beatles / Echoes - Pink Floyd PF was influenced by the Beatles. This sort of thing was bound to happen.

Re: Across the universe - The Beatles / Echoes - Pink Floyd Of course Pink Floyd was influenced by Beatles (in my opinion). I've always said that to my ignorant friends. The Beatles were far more than just a band playing chords. There are so many songs very imrpovised from them that remind me of the Floyd. A Day in the Life, Strawberry Fiields Forever, Sun King. Sound so alike as the PF's sound. Even they influenced Barrett, just need to hear songs like Mean mr. Mustard, or Maxwell's Silver Hammer. I love both bands, my favourite two!!! Even more InCREdible I have "Across The Universe" cover played by ROGER WATERS!!!

Re: Across the universe - The Beatles / Echoes - Pink Floyd "Love Street" by The Doors has the line "summer sunday and a year" and so does "Fat Old Sun", and it's not exactly a common line I've ever heard anywhere else, the song seems to have kind of a similar vibe too.

but there is a similarity between them, with the cowbell and similar guitar/drum motifs at times, but i dont think there is enough similarity to support a lawsuit. death/fear of death are common themes in alot of popular music, and the cowbell is used at regular intervals as well. as for martha stewart, i also agree |
