you know that ive heard it said that if you break down the human body into its initial, most basic chemical components, we are worth (in monetry value) less than $5?

and i do believe that we are different from animals; although some people might not act that way sometimes! i dont believe that animals posess moral standings, nor posess the logic and/or technical/mental ability to be able to 'evolve' (or what, for a better word, in my opinion 'adapt') to life in a way that humans have demonstrated they are able to.

the two main streams of this thread? i think they runn something similar to this -

1. we are all just made up of a bunch of chemicals, put together by chance (or a big bang, or whathaveyou) roaming the earth, with the whole point of doing nothing, etc etc... and when you die, you are dead, and thats the end... finished, finale, finito..

OR,

2. maybe, just MAYBE, there is something more... maybe you feel it? maybe you cant explain it for the life of you, and all you can describe it as, is this feeling deep down inside, that you are worth more than $5.. (which, incidently, is true) and that there MUST be some purpose to life...

i think most of you will prolly stand in a middle ground on this one... im just curious about where, exactly...
call me an optimist (or whatever) but i stand feet firm in the second option... life is too important, too special and too crazy for the first

Well think about it--- if there is no 'higher standard,' then why is 'right' any better than 'wrong'? Why shouldn't I go around killing whomever I so desire? What difference does it make, really?

I stand with you englar...my comments earlier were brought up only for the sake of discussion...I don't buy the "when the lights go out the lights go out" theory...As humans, we experience a full range of emotions. We are capable of love, we become brokenhearted. We dream. We also experience de ja vu...which I believe to be a bazaar phenomenon. Even if you believe in the Big Bang Theory, and the theory of Evolution...There was still something in the beginning..something that put those forces in motion...what was here before then I cannot say. What lies after is something unknown...but there is something...

Question for all: Do you believe the universe is endless?
If there is an end...what lies there?

Seriously, I will say this, I have a specific idea about what life is or isn't, and I don't wish to discuss it here. It could get weighty and outrage people on both sides of the aisle. Or someone could propose something to me, anyway, I'll leave it to the existential forum.

Or we could all be wrong and their is no existence at all, rather just the illusion of existence.

Actually, what has always puzzled me - and I too am fascinated by life, the universe and everything - was if the universe was expanding, what thing was it expanding into, and more, what the hell was that other thing yielding (UK: giving way) the area into which the the universe expanded?

Now you see why & are my favourite smileys.
