Thank You!!

Thanks guys. These are fantastic ideas and I think I can use them all. After a day or so of thought I'm going to change my story to be more like Roger's but with my original idea more set in the milieu of it all. I like the way the older brother would die, in a hail of gunfire for his sympathy. That's really good. Those of you who have contributed ideas or anything really, please e-mail me your names or at least user names so I can put you in the credits. I am going to tell the story from the point of view of a soldier who returns home to his family only to be disgusted with the society he saves. I am wondering if he would begin to sympathize himself with the other side he was fighting against, blurring the lines between good and bad. Then to make matters worse, his son (the older brother) could be drafted to go to the same war his father just left. This could be the final straw to the father and he could try to help his son evade the draft just before he leaves. While gone, the son is caught and drafted. Perhaps the father could defect and ironically end up killing his own son?? Your Ideas on that?? Then he could commit suicide and leave his near comatose, Blank TV-watching son alone for eternity.

SO HERE'S THE CHANGES:
1. It will be told from a soldier's POV instead of the mindless child (I wonder if I could get one of those "no individuality" masks from The Wall hmmm....)

2. The son will die in battle for showing his sympathy in a "hot zone" (possibly by his own father).

3. The father will be disgusted by several things:
a) The sad state of the nation he's saved
b) His mindless drone of a son, and
c) His son's draft to the war which the father just fought.

Please give me your thoughts on these changes. I now see how creative and knowledgable you all are and I greatly appreciate your help here. Thanks!

P.S. Don't forget to e-mail me or PM me so I can put you in the credits. I don't want to leave ANYONE out, no matter how little you think you have helped me.

Don't include me, I wouldn't include the editor in my novel byline. Why don't you make your film and surprise us?

Re: A Final Cut Movie!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks stratters, and I too was thinking the scenario could fit current, recent past and generally ANY warfare situation fairly well.

And Wildcard, in keeping wth THAT general theme and Roger's influence, of course, the hail of bullets that kill the newly sympathetic warrior would naturally come from the radio-obssessed boy's mother - and strangely we can just make out from the lad's headphones, the haunting strains of Mother, ...keeping "baby healthy and clean."

Wing'd Icarus: but then we might have just assumed James910 was the 910th James on these boards and miss totally his Beatles reference.

Re: A Final Cut Movie!!!!!!!!!!

Why his mother though? Where is her motivation to join the battle? It would have to take a lot for her to switch sides in the middle of the war and become what she once fought against. I think this would more logically happen with the disgusted father and then perhaps the mother could be one more thing he is disgusted with. Maybe she's the epitome of bare-foot and pregnant and he wanted her to be a free-spirit. Maybe that's her motivation, trying to please her husband and finally take a stand on something only to kill her own son. Hmmm.

Your Thoughts guys?

Re: A Final Cut Movie!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry, I've confused you. The Mother in my suggestion is protecting her son, her strangely morose, quiet and portable radio-obsessed lad. And seeing this killer warrior (older brother) about to kill her own son, well...blammo! All a mistake, y'see.

But take it as you find it, interpret at will.

Re: A Final Cut Movie!!!!!!!!!!

Erm...it still seems a little off track from what I perceive to be the thrust of The Final Cut (no pun intended).

Anyway, I like the idea about the comatose kid. Perhaps while all the action is going on, some of the more "obscure" songs (that I can't see being covered yet) could actually be DREAMS that he is having. eg. Fletcher Memorial Home could be a dream he has whilst his family is engulfed in a war that has been created by politicians. Maybe he could have dreams of past conflicts as well (hence tying in the whole theme of Southampton Dock).

Personnally my ideal ending would be the destruction of his entire family in a nuclear holocaust...and the final scene is the still-comotose boy staring at his screen with tears running down his face.

Re: A Final Cut Movie!!!!!!!!!!

You mean like the Indian, I mean, Native American in those save the planet-type ads? you know the one, where garbage is dumped all over the place and he sheds a single tear. Also, and I think more notably, a take-off of it included in the end of Wayne's World 2.

Re: A Final Cut Movie!!!!!!!!!!

That's great. I like the idea of the obscure songs being dreams of the comatose kid. Also, his family dying in a nuclear holocaust, perhaps even a botched air raid, would be much easier than a car crash (for me at least) because I have a ton of stock footage of nuclear blasts. Thanks guys and don't stop now.

Re: A Final Cut Movie!!!!!!!!!!

Way back up to Bride Of A Bull's idea, I see what you mean now. If the mother would be protecting who she thinks is her comatose son, from her other son (unknown to her) is really good and the part about having Mother crackling through a radio for a few seconds is great. I still think she is lacking a little in her motivation for going to war. Any ideas from anyone?
