A movie about TFC? I think its better to visualize what the music makes you think of than to create a fullscale film version that could ruin people's own imaginings. Go ahead if this is really what you want to do.

If you want character names then go for those of Roger's family, whatever they were. It would certainly follow on from the wall that way.

BTW, do you really think Rog will read your script? He sounds very busy at the moment touring and working on this opera of his.

I dont think it could work out though. Even though the wall was somewhat based on rogers life, it was made in the way that it could have been anyone. Anyones dad could have died in a war, anyones mother could have been over protective, anyones wife could cheat on him etc, while tfc is alot more narrow, only one person's story, Roger's. This makes it to be a very poor album and not a good idea to make it into a movie imo, because without the album its not much.

He'll never finish it. I'm sorry to sound cynical, but I've seen lots of people attempt lots of similar projects and I've never seen any of them come to fruition. To make a movie on this scale with any kind of professionalism you need a LOT of time, money, and, er, brain damage. You also need to get full permission from On High (which you can't, because you not only need Roger's blessing but also the blessing of Roger's Lawyers). Even if you do, and here's the kicker, you need to pay big royalties, EVEN IF YOU DON'T MAKE A CENT OFF IT (which you won't). The odds are against it 10 billion to one this gets made.

I don't think he means to make it commercially, but rather for his own enjoyment. A precursor to bigger and better things, perhaps.

I always thought that royalties were paid as a percentage of the profits or total income or something. Without any resultant income from this, there would be no royalty to pay. I know for our school play we paid a flat rate for a royalty but we submitted to them how many tickets we could sell and at what price. If i'm not selling anything why would they even bother as long as I give Roger and everyone credit? I don't even have much money so they couldn't sue much out of me anyway, It would be a waste of their time and money to deal with me. There will be a very obvious and explicit disclaimer anyway.

Well, by your plan you would probably be giving out copyrighted music for free. I don't know what Roger and the others' views are on free music, but you would also be dealing with the record companies who still want to make a profit off of it.

Also once a person gets a copy of this movie, how can you be sure that they won't make their own copies and sell it? They probably wouldn't even care that there is a disclaimer on it. Heck, they would probably get rid of it or edit it out, somehow.

the disclaimer would still be there and by reading it the, the person who now has a copy of the video would be the only person responsible for his/her actions. There will be a line in the disclaimer stating, "In no event shall Richard Bramlette be liabe for any consequencial, incedental, direct, indirect, special, punitive, recursive, or other damages (including, without limitation, damages for loss of business profits, business interruption, loss of business information, personal injury, disruption of family life, or other pecuniary loss) arising out of this agreement or the use or inability to use the video, even if Richard Bramlette has been advised of the possibility of such damages. Succinctly, the entire risk aising out of the use, performance, or subsequent editing thereof of this video remains solely with the recipient." This clear things up a little?

That is a long shot in the American judicial system. I don't know about the UK.

I don't see how that disclaimer in any way waives Roger's right to charge royalties for the use of his music, or his record companies' right to charge you for using their recordings (two different things, the latter being trickier to escape).

Imagine, for instance, someone heard you were giving away this movie for free. They don't have a copy of The Final Cut. They download the movie, don't even watch it, dub the soundtrack onto a CDR, and voila, you've just given them a completely free and utterly illegal copy of an entire studio album.
