Lightbulb A Final Cut Movie!!!!!!!!!!

Hello all. I think that all you loyal longtime floydians as well as neo-floydians like myself will be very pleased to hear that I have decided to make a movie out of The Final Cut. Before you jump from your seats and accuse of anything (that's for you record people)I am not going to even attempt in any way, shape or form to take credit for anything but the video clips and by no means do I want a profit of ANY KIND! In the last year I have discovered Pink Floyd for myself and was mesmerized. In The Wall I found a fantastic story and social commentary. In Wish You Were Here I found insights into Syd Barrett and Pink Floyd's Past as well as a new way of looking at my world. But it somewhat the misfit of the albums that really struck a chord with me. As telling as The Wall was, and enchanting as Dark Side of The Moon was, The Final Cut really hit me like a freight train. Now that I own The Wall on DVD, I watch it very often and still I find new things, but when I realized The Final Cut was somewhat of a continuation of The Wall, I searched high and low for a visual representation of it all. Despite my efforts I've come to learn of no such video. For about a year now I've been experimenting with video software and music videos and one of my projects even made it to nationals in the History Day Competition last year. I felt so much from The Final Cut that I think deeply that there needs to be a movie of some sort. Of course, I could never do the album justice, but as far as I can tell, not having a movie would be even more of an injustice. What I am proposing is not a professional style motion picture but it could be very close. Because I am a 17 year old College Freshman, it couldn't be parfect but I think that if I could show you some of my work you could see how good this could be. I believe in a very fundamental fact in life and I live by it. It's this: Don't do something unless it will be done right the first time. I am going to spend a lot of time on the conceptual aspects of this movie because there is so much to tell. Hopefully, this message board will be a perfect forum for bouncing ideas off everyone. I already have some ideas ready but new ones are ALWAYS welcome and ANY criticism you may have about this is just as welcome. FEEL FREE TO E-MAIL ME!!! JUST WRITE THE FINAL CUT OR PINK FLOYD OR SOMETHING LIKE IT IN THE SUBJECT OR IT WILL GET DELETED. I really want this to be an excellant production and I want fans like myself of Pink Floyd's epic music to be very proud of this. On the issue of money, I EXPECT NONE. when this is all finished I hope to be able to transmit the video electronically but versions on CD-Rs would probably cost 5 or 6 bucks for 50 of them so just enough to cover the shipping and the 10 cent CD would be all I would ask. I have so much ambition for this and I really think we can pull together and make a fantastic movie. (Everyone who contributes a thought, I will do my best to get you all into the credits.)PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU ARE IN FAVOR OF THIS IDEA. I will be sending this identical message to many other Pink Floyd Forums. Thank you all.

There is a story

Despite what you're thinking there is a story in The Final Cut. It is a little more difficult to find than in The Wall but it still exists. THe Final Cut can even somewhat tell what comes after The Wall. TFC is all about the ravages of war and the despair and poverty that so easily can arise from it. There is a lot of whining but this is because the story is told through someone who is or has experienced it. That is how I want to structure the movie. Because there is so much about children and a little on desensitization, I want to spend some time on how the television has hurt our society. I would love to make some footage of a child staring blankly at a tv screen with nothing but the wall on it. I think that alone could be so telling. TFC tells the story of everyone who has ever fought in, been a part of, or lost a loved one in or as a result of war. At least this is what I got out of it and what I hope to convey in the movie. Thank you for your criticism though. It is much appreciated.

I'm just curious, Wildcard - do you shoot on film, video, or digitally?

How I will do this

I have a sony HI-8 camcorder I'll be using to film everything with. Even though it isn't digital, I can hook it up to my computer with a piece of Dazzle hardware I have and save it to my computer. I am going to shoot as much of it as possible myself but there will be certain things I just cannot do like pyrotechnics and really stunning scenes. For these few sequences, I'm going to have to resort to Hollywood films. I've decided to push back my date to start filming because I just went to see Reign of Fire today and I know there are a few post-apocalyptic scenes I want to use. I am going to do my best to keep the actors out of the film but for action sequences they will exist to some amount. Here's a list of movies that I might use small clips from:

Black Hawk Down
We Were Soldiers
The Wall
Reign of Fire

If you can think of any more that would have good scenes of poverty and war-stricken panoramas let me know. Also, I am still working on the story behind all of this and I need a rock solid character to at least comewhat base it off of. Thanks.

you should make a movie about a kid who gets left behind at his house by himself over the holidays who coincidentally has to thwart some no brained thieves instead. you would make millions i tell you! millions!!!

Nah, make a movie about a rich superstar who gets everything he wants but still finds things to mope about.

Oh wait Roger Waters already did that.

TFC has nothing to do with Roger. Maybe you got it confused with The Wall.

Not a very good story by the way.

You should put a couple of scenes of sex (hard, obviously) in your movie, you would make TFC story definitely more interesting

yes it does

You're certainly right sex sells very well but I'm not trying to sell anything. I'm trying to make a movie as true to the original album as possible.

You obviously didn't look very hard:
Four videos from The Final Cut

Don't waste your time doing something that's already been done.
