| Re: post-waters era singing and vocals In relative terms. "A lot of publicity", with his works, would be the equivalent of what happened when he released Broken China. And I wouldn't expect that until very close to release, just judging from the way he's operated in the past.

| Re: post-waters era singing and vocals It's true, I remember seeing it, there were a few other heavy-weight rock stars in the same sketch but I can't recall who they were now. I believe Lemmy from Motorhead may have been one of them. ![]() |

| Re: post-waters era singing and vocals Well, it looks like the Pink Floyd Encyclopedia shall rear its head again, here. I first heard about David's "acting" debut when reading through the PFE. Then my friend Zombiezee came across this episode/show with David on it. I, however, have never seen it for myself. From what I understand, the sketch was about a company that sold music books that were faulty. So badly done were these books that when David was presented with a copy, and asked to play a song from it, he couldn't do it, much to his chagrin. Of course, I may be muddling this up in my recollections of what I read, but I can't double-check it at the moment. If I'm wrong, would someone please (gently) correct? So, I must repeat my request to anyone who might have a copy of it on video to let me know so I may work out some sort of trade, or something. Cheers! GeeDub#1

| Re: post-waters era singing and vocals You can find it in the April 19, 1990 entry in Pink Floyd--A Visual Documentary (the 1994 edition) by Miles and Andy Mabbet. The entry goes like this: David Gilmour took part in a sketch on the French and Saunders TV show on BBC 2, alongside Ralph McTell, Mark Knopfler, Lemmy, Gary Moore and Mark King. The sketch suggested that the guitarists could play from memory, but became totally incompetent when trying to use McTell's book '100 Easy Guitar Tunes' because there were 'none of those little pictures that show you where to put your fingers'. Gilmour played the riff from 'Another Brick In the Wall', which was introduced as being 'written by a friend of his'. |

| Re: post-waters era singing and vocals Various series of the French and Saunders show are available here in the UK on VHS, I don't own any but you can probably pick them up at Amazon.co.uk . Unfortunately I don't know which particular series featured this sketch! |

| Re: post-waters era singing and vocals Usually they are NOT compatible. Europe uses PAL system, America the NTSC.

| Re: post-waters era singing and vocals That is pretty much what I thought, that's why a trade may need to be in order.

| Re: post-waters era singing and vocals I agree that David's vocals aren't as good as they used to be - not so much power and, dare I say it - 'soul'. But then, listening to 'Poles Apart' from TDB I'd have to say that he let's rip with some of his finest singing on any album. Try singing along with that track - the range is amazing. Roger Waters' singing is terrible on Amused to Death except on WGW p3 - where the old style comes back again. If 'Flickering Flame' is anything to go by - the passing of tens years hasn't seen his voice improve at all. It's gotten even worse!

| Re: post-waters era singing and vocals Does anyone else find Rogers' talksinging as off-putting as me? He sounded OK on Animals singing fairly normally but from The Wall onwards he's just got worse. |
