Really? because I think its just to criticize it for the fact that alot of you hate the Post Waters Floyd and just cant accept it without him.

The fact that someone thinks the In the Flesh DVD is better says it all, it is great, but pulse is a phenomenal show with superior musicians, mainly Gilmour, hate to say it, but Doyle Brahmall and even snowy white (who i love) cant hold a candle to the guy.

Re: Pulse DVD?

Who cares? I don't live and die by these things.

Gilmour is as fine a guitarist as you could ever pick, but the light show is mere over-compensation for a dearth of musical ideas IMO.

Re: Pulse DVD?

I can see your point, but I've always thought it was more of a way for the audience to focus less on the band members on more on the music, in a way - since Pink Floyd has always had an association with visuals. It's not something you see in concerts these days, and likely probably won't - Gilmour ruled out doing anything like it again at least.

While I don't think "In The Flesh" touches "Pulse", I can see why people would prefer it. Pulse doesn't feel like a concert anymore, it feels like a very rehearsed show. There was no room for movement, no room to be spontaneous in the show. I used to love the Comfortably Numb solo, and while it's still amazing, I look back on it now and see how artificial it really is.

Re: Pulse DVD?

I though the halos on the audience were neat. I imagine that made it pretty intimate. I thought there was more energy in general during the performance. Watch Learning to Fly from 80's with the dreary vocals(isn't coke supposed to stimulate?). The slow motion in Sorrow was cool. Bootlegs were suprisingly good.

On the other hand...

I kept on waiting for Carin to shove Rick off his stool and show him how to play his own synth solos (an argument for ITF while we're on it). The screen films are absurd, unlike the cool album covers. Maybe his ideas are suited best for still images.

No, he was too embarrassed about his hair.

There's nothing wrong with Rick's playing IMO. Au contraire, the new surround mix makes his parts sound clearer and more brilliant than ever.

Re: Pulse DVD?

Actually, I think he plays very well on Pulse, barring Any Colour, I just wanted to make a weak attempt at humour. A very random, weak attempt.

It seems Dark Guitarist beat me with the hair comment though. It's kind of wierd how the original members all had haircuts that could stand up today, and Jon and Guy, the young guys, look like victims of the early 90's.

Re: Pulse DVD?

Mine arrived at the weekend but I was away in north Wales getting sunburnt, and I still haven't watched the darn thing yet after waiting so long for it. Maybe tonight when I get in from work.

Re: Pulse DVD?

I didn't like it before, no doubt it hasn't suddenly been filled with musicians that play with passion or gotten over its own rehearsed to excess feel.

But maybe, what with digital technology being so great and all, it has somehow been made enjoyable.
