Though not necessarily in that order. Shane G. can go on the list, and lucifersamradio, except sam may have taken his git-fiddle down the road. Haven't seen the boy for awhile.....

I think all my picks have been mentioned by various folk, but I'll throw in my ten cents worth anyway: Jeff Beck Eric Clapton Stevie Ray Vaughan (Sp?) Mark Knopfler Gilmour (of course).

I read somewhere (I'm sure Driven can come up with the article and actual quote) that, when asked about his favorite guitarists, Gilmour mentioned Jeff Beck. He also mentioned that he was impressed with the stuff Eddie Van Halen does with his guitar.

The aforementioned quote... ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dave Gilmour: "There aren't many of the speed merchants that I have any great curiosity about. Eddie Van Halen is great, a brilliant guitar player. Some of his solos on his own stuff and on the Mlichael Jackson piece are short, concise, brilliantly crafted solos. They're not just about speed. He can do a bit of something that's quite gentle and then throw in something that just blows you away because of the sheer pace of it for a second. And then he goes back to something else. There are moments when I would like to be able to do that, but, as I said, you get what you're given. "I mean, Jeff Beck is still my sort of guitar hero, really, I suppose. He's the one that I think pushes the boundaries. He's consistently exciting. Jeff can play damn fast, he can do speed, but he chooses not to most of the time and that's what impresses me. It's what he chooses to leave out rather than what he chooses to stick in. I played with him once, doing a Jan Hammer song, I'm not sure where now, but I played the bass and Jeff played the guitar. That was a bit of fun." --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Apparently Floyds just LOVE Jeff Beck. Here's Rick Wright talking about his favourite albums. JEFF BECK Jeff Beck's Guitar Shop With Terry Bozzio And Tony Hymas (Epic, 1989) "As far as rock guitarists go he's got to be my all-time hero. He started as a blues guitarist just like Clapton, but he's investigated the possibilities of the instrument much more. You probably won't know this, but when Syd left Pink Floyd we actually asked Jeff Beck to join, he was our first choice. He was doing OK at the time so he turned us down. There's one track on Guitar Shop called Where Were You? that's just this beautiful, melodic guitar sequence. I loved it so much that I took that feel for an instrumental called Sweet July on my new solo album. I wanted Beck to play on it but he turned me down. Again."
