| 1. Jimi Hendrix 2. Brian May 3. Joe Satriani 4. David Gilmour 5. The Edge these are not all who I think are the best, even though the top 2 (Jimi & May) I consider the best some other worthy mentions: Frank Zappa, Kirk Hammett, Steve Vai, Eric Clapton, Yngwie Malmsteen (I realise the aformentioned guitarists are better than the Edge but U2 are my favourite band and i like his realy unique style), Tom Morrello, Matt Bellamy, Albert King, etc... |

Granted a lot of Beck's work doesn't suit my tastes, but that's why he's brilliant. Something of his will suit everyone's tastes. I think we saw the closest thing to a Jeff Beck Pink Floyd with ATD...and with that in mind I wouldn't necessarily say "fortunately" |

| Tough Question. Maybe could narrow it down alittle by asking what are the top 5 "rock" guitarists. Anyway (in no particular order)...Gilmour, Hendrix, Stevie Ray, Alvin Lee, Billy Gibbons...after that, Allman, Trower, Zappa, Nugent, Harrison, Buck Dharma, Gallagher, F. Morreno, Page, Knopler, Clapton...is just too hard a question. In the Blues genre: Albert King and Buddy Guy...they could really wail. As far as bluegrass/folk type stuff: Doc Watson and Chet Adkins... |

| I think Jeff Beck did a marvelous job on Amused To Death. Wonderful guitar playing, really. Then again, Amuse To Death has become one of my favorite albums. I really looooove it. But also Ted Nugent is real cool, as is Stevie Ray Vaugh and Clapton and so I can go on for hours. So many good guitar players. Though Jimi Hendrix is the first and the best who came into excistance so to say. It's a real shame he died that young. Somewhere Over The Rainbow from Jimi, is a wonderful guitar song. Oooh, I fly on guitar players with feeling...Right up, into another sphere... |

| Best guitarist of all time? Satriani! Without of doubt. He beats ANY other guitarist, not any other group, but when comparing just GUITARISTS, Satriani is OUTRAGEOUS!:o |

| I just hate threads like this. There are so many great players out there, of differeing styles and cultures, one simply cannot make the value judgement of who is "best". Now Take Satch for instance, personally I love the guy, he rated way up on my list, but so do many other that I seriously doubt you have listened to. How would you compare Satriani to these guys.... Adrian Belew Robert Fripp Adrian Legg Glen Buxton Lil Ed Hawkins Al Dimeola D'jango Reinhart I'd assess each equally as capable as Satch, but they are all signifigantly different in style and substance. No less soulfull (moreso in some cases), no less technically proficient. It all boils down to personal opinion. |

well I admire Satriani because he can play that guitar with such ease, you have to see him play! I went to a satch concert recently..he was playing with the guitar over his head ect. It was awsome. I've heard of a couple of those guys that you mentioned..but never seen any of them live. |

| Shurely my kid and all of you, will agree with me. We discovered Doyle Bramhall 2 on In The Flesh Tour 2000 and we were grately and confortably surprised with his technic and style, I think he was an excellent selection from Roger for that tour. It's a pity that he hadn't been on the line up for the 2002 tour. Also don't forget Snowy White Last edited by Esquiv74; 09-12-2002 at 03:51 PM. |

| Doyle Jr has been discussed it length in other threads, (See "Who has ITF Live Video?) and is greatly admired adn respected on this board. Those of us who play guitar (Stratman, Shane G, Myself) are very much fans of his style and abilities, others on here (PearlWaters, GeeDub) Just think he's hot....... Don't fret, he has not been omited. |
