One Of These Days (Pompeii Version)

In the Live At Pompeii video, during "One of These Days":

During the lead-up to the part where Nick speaks the line "One of these days..." we see a series of stills of a couple of guys. My question is: Who are they? The one in the hat may be Nick, but I haven't seen him wearing that kind of hat. And who is the other guy with the gray hair? The director?

Any thoughts?

I have no idea. Maybe one of them is a Floyd sound mixer.

I think the highlight of OOTD at Pompeii is when Nick drops a drumstick, and grabs another one without missing a beat. That takes skill - I can do it, myself, after much practice.

And dropping a drumstick dosen't mean you're dumb.

I don't think he dropped it. It looked more like he broke it and then grabs the other one. Definitely a highlight of the film. The only part that bothers me is that I can no longer listen to "A Saucerful of Secrets" without seeing Chewbacca from Star Wars. Dave should have cut his hair, but that isn't a problem now.

What happened is that Nick hit the stick of the rim of the snare drum. If he had a loose grip, that can cause the stick to jump out of you hands, and fly somewhere. Enough of a hit near the butt of the stick (while it's in your hand) will jar it out of your hand, and make it fly.

It's happened to me a hundred times.

And your Chewbacca connection -

I'll take your word for it.

"I would like some apple pie without the crust."

"Sorry Nick, they only make the round ones now."

(Or something like that.)

It's right after the "One of these days I'm going to cut you into little pieces" thing. After that, Nick seems to just go full blast with the drums. You can see the actual part where the drumstick flies out of his hand in an overhead shot. I think it's towards the right center of the screen. Hope this helped.

It's in the middle of the second half of the song, during the "wild" drumming part after the "One of these days..."

It's RIGHT after the part where all you can see is the rows and rows of pictures of Nick playing drums (don't know the technical term for that).

Yeah, he did hit it so that the stick is launched out of his hand, which I found somehow incredibly humorous. As far as not missing a beat, I suppose he didn't lose the beat, but he did kind of stagger at first, I believe even sort of trying to carry on with just the palm of his hand - then reaching for the new stick. Classic, thought I. I like Nick, though the whole pie thing kind of confused me. He'd rather have none than one with crust? Why?

I suppose that he would have liked the pie, but he was little full and didn't want the pie if he had to waste his time and cut the crust off.

Yeah, it looked as if there was a half-second there when Nick thought there was still a stick in his hand. I think it's a cool feat, because Nick started a fill while reaching for a stick - and then completed the fill when he got the stick out.

What a drummer. They say he's good for a reason!
