| Animals or The Wall ? In the 'After Syd Barrett' forum there's an interesting poll that asks you to express your preference between DSotM and WYWH. Now let's do the same with Animals and The Wall. Both are a deep Rog's expression but they are very different. I won't include TFC in the poll cause it's a "sub-part" of The Wall and i guess it would be badly beaten. Reading your opinions about TFC anyway i noticed most of you think Not Now John is the only good thing of it, and NNJ seems more a work of the sarcastic and disenchanted Waters of Animals rather than the moaning and self-piting Rog of The Wall (and TFC indeed). What do you think?

| Re: Animals or The Wall ? In my opinion, The Wall was too much of a downer; sure it had some great songs like CN, hey you, GBS, etc., but unlike Animals, Rog's oppression was very evident, which I did not like. IMO, Animals are almost as good a masterpiece as DSotM. |

| Re: Animals or The Wall ? Animals for the totally irrelevant reason that it was my first Floyd album Also The Wall would have been far better as a single album IMO. |

| Re: Animals or The Wall ? I voted for The Wall. I like both albums, but I have more in common lyrically with The Wall than I do with Animals. It's more accessible for me.

| Re: Animals or The Wall ? After much deliberation, I voted for The Wall. I think it was thought out better in terms of theme. But I love Animals, too. |

| Re: Animals or The Wall ? These two albums are very close in my personal ranking, and even if I have to remark one more time that The Wall is a far better album in its live version Is There Anybody Out There, my vote goes to Animals. The Wall is good but definitely overrated IMO.

| Re: Animals or The Wall ? I feel that the theme of Animals is not very strong; it was cobbled together from disparate sources and forced into a concept, in my opinion. The Wall is stronger conceptually. Although I greatly prefer ITAOT and The Final Cut, of the two choices given I will pick The Wall.

| Re: Animals or The Wall ? Although I like David's guitar work on Animals better ('specially Dogs), I voted for The Wall. The Wall just has too much good stuff - musically and lyrically. It also has some weak parts, but the strengths far outweigh the weaknesses. ![]()

| Re: Animals or The Wall ? Let's face it, The Wall isn't a masterpeice. I enjoy it, and I enjoy ITAOT even more, but basically, its variations on the same tune. Sure there are some good songs on it. But as a whole its not very good. And lyrically, yes, it does speak to me, as much as any millionaire's problems can speak to me, but really it is bad high school poetry. Animals on the other hand, three seperate songs (well five, but who's counting those two dreadful songs) that are quite different, yet are part of the whole. Musically, thumbs up, lyrically, my only problem is with some parts of Sheep (who is the f@cked up old hag again?). And Dogs is so much better than CN.

| Re: Animals or The Wall ? Well, just how much of my soul do I want to bare here????? I dearly love both albums. The first time I saw PF in concert was during the Animals tour, it was nothing short of amazing. A few years later two buddies and I cut college classes for three days to road trip our way to Detroit to see The Wall. What memories. Suffice it to say The Wall goes much deeper than what most folks realize. Even this well informed panel we have here at the ALL PINK FLOYD FAN NETWORK cannot truly appreciate what THE WALL truly means to select group of folks. Clinical Depression is not something easily discussed by those of us who have suffered through it at one point in our lives. The emotions, observations, paranoia, and general feeling of being disconnected from society are difficult to communicate to those who have not been afflicted. The Wall IS clinical Depression. It does not show evidence of Rog's depression, it simply is the embodyment of depression, it's absolutely brilliant. Strangely, I find it quite uplifting. After all Pink goes through, after the delusions, the paranoia, the abuse suffered upon him by those who do not understand the condition, he still manages to struggle onward. His will to persevere still intact. He's an emotional basket case, but he moves forward. It's inspiring.

I never said The Wall wasn't about any of this stuff, and I didn't say I didn't relate. I just said it wasn't very good.
