no way. anyone can play 4 or 5 chords on a guitar. they didnt play the orchestra's part did they? no they didnt. i admit, that is a good song, probably one of the few* Beatles songs i actually like. the rest are just sunshine acid filled song and are recorded too loud. more political than musical if you ask me... they just
'represent that generation' and can only please a few people in modern time. they did alot for music i admit, but still, they are way overrated.

I'm glad the Floyd did their own thing after getting rid of Syd, we wouldnt want another Beatles running around on our radio would we???

*= 'fixing a hole' 'a day in the life' 'elenor rigby' 'strawberry fields forever' 'shes leaving home' 'lucy in the sky with diamons' 'within you without you'.......and thats about it... oh and 'biding my time' hahaha jk...i couldnt resist.

sure sure, but mostly because people have been waiting on a beatles greatest hits album for about 20 years now. i dont own it personally, because i dont see buying a cd only to listen to a handful of songs that i already have. some people just stay dedicated to them through the years. i for one never saw anything important in them. have a nice day.

I had to go with Van Halen also. David Lee Roth was just a little too full of himself and Sammy Hagar at best was just okay. All the other bands have really put out a steady steam of quality work.

no offense to Gerald, but thats just the way i see it. the beatles started off as a poppy new band playing a few poppy new songs, they found LSD, and POOF, they went on to be 'revolutionary' and what-not. im not speaking for THEM, just their music. i really dont see anything special in it. there are a few songs that i really dig, but i can count them all with under 10 fingers. i think they are just WAY overrated, thats all. there are too many BETTER bands being overlooked. sadly, i can buy the new Weezer and have myself some pure Beatles rip-off. but that makes me not like the beatles or weezer anymore than i do. i respect the beatles and what they 'did for music', but that doesnt mean i have to like them or pretend that i do.

try yourself some Flaming Groovies, now THERE'S a band. rock!

have an even nicer day.

Re: The Great 7 bands

Every band on that list deserve their place in history........ apart from Van Halen, peddlars of cheesy American pop metal. After getting rid of Van Halen all you need to do is throw in Dylan and Hendrix and you have all the rock music worth bothering about. I suspect Van Halen were in the list so we could have an easy pick.

The Beatles made it Simple.

John Lennon....shew, I wish you knew the inside story. If you did, you may view his behavior differently. I like his solo work.
All we are saying, is give peace a chance....boy what a horrible message to spread to the universe.

Well said, PearlWaters!

Re: The Great 7 bands

Erm... why has no-one mentioned the Beach Boys? They have had just as much influence and impact on music as any of those other bands, except maybe (and that's maybe) The Beatles...

Re: The Great 7 bands

I hate the Beach Boys, no offense. They tried too hard to be the Beatles. Them and the Monkees. I hated the f*cking Monkees.

Someone mistakingly put Van Halen on the list and excluded Queen instead.

Disappointed no Rush on the list.
Van Halen and it was not even close consideration. No DLR please.

Re: The Great 7 bands

Thank GOD the Beatles were not a technical band! I watched about 20 minutes of an Ingvey Malmsteen(?) video the other day and was bored to tears. For those of you who say the early stuff was shit, go rent 'The Beatles first US visit' and watch that first Ed Sullivan performance. All My Loving, Till There Was You, She Loves You, etc. There they were, writing and performing their own tunes. The unbelievable thing?.....Lennon, age: 23 McCartney, age: 21 Harrison, age: 20 Starr, age: 23 These guys were not fabricated. They came from nothing, unlike the Stones, and achieved tremendous success. Why? Because they were very good, not because they sucked. Granted, they would have never amounted to much without Epstein & Martin but it was their charisma that won them over. The Beatles dominate the top of the mountain and always will. Their music has transcended time and will continue to do so.

When Ringo briefly left the band, Paul played drums on Back in the USSR and Dear Prudence.
