| The Great 7 bands I used to see read everywhere and hear about the great 7 bands of all time. These were the greatest and most popular rock bands ever. They were in no particular order: PINK FLOYD THE WHO THE BEATLES THE DOORS ROLLING STONES LED ZEPPELIN VAN HALEN My question is not which of these giants you guys think is the best...but which is the MOST OVER-RATED, or should NOT be in this prestigious list. My choice would be the Beatles, because they're early stuff was awful, and they never really did learn to play their instruments. Also John Lennon is full of shit, more of a business genius than a rock god. So Vote for which of these bands is the WORST! |

| Re: The Great 7 bands I voted for Van Halen. I never really had a moment where I sat back while listening to them and said, "Damn, that's good." I've had those moments with the rest of the bands on there, however. Nalepa: Ever heard A Day in the Life? I'd say that the Beatles had learnt how play their instruments by 1967. |

| Re: The Great 7 bands I voted for the Who, couldn't decide between them or Van Halen. Phish should have definently been on there, and if they were, I would've voted for them without a doubt. They can lick my balls, they're so shitty....a wannabe Grateful Dead, who isn't even that great in the first place. ![]()

| Phish is not so bad echoes69: Are we talking about the same Phish??? Phish is a musically superior band to the Grateful Dead, but the Dead were an excellent band. They were at their best when live. Even if Phish are Grateful Dead wannabes, they are so talented and good musically that its okay. Listen to some of their live bootlegs and you'll change your mind. Shane G.- A Day in the Life is a great song...its just sad that the guitar work on My Guitar Gently Weeps had to be played by Clapton and not Harrison (who is a sorry guitar player). Not taking anything away from the Beatles-I think they are a good band but I just don't think they are the Gods that people make them out to be. John Lennon in particular is the epitome of the spoiled rich rock star who will do anything for money. |

| The Beatles They're often overrated, OK. They are NOT Gods, sure. But the post-Revolver Beatles are just GREAT. Albums like Revolver, Abbey Road, the "White Album", Sgt Pepper's LHCB are sheer genius. And I think you are a bit unfair with George Harrison.

| Re: The Great 7 bands Whew! The above post by Nalepa should, IMO, have been liberally peppered with its own IMOs otherwise it comes across as being deliberately provocative. I hope that wasn't the intention. Firstly, since Lennon is now dead, he can no longer epitomise anything but a corpse, but I very much doubt he could ever have epitomised the spoilt rich rock star character. The Oasis Gallagher brothers are perfect examples of that breed, just for comparison, and they have much less going for them. John shunned most publicity, didn't appear to endorse any commercial ventures and didn't seem to be greedy or overly acquisitive. Sure he had tons of money, but you write and sell as many records as he did and you'll have loadsamoney too. Good luck. What, should he and Yoko (Oh no!) have lived in a shack and given all their money away? Secondly, Clapton and Harrison were good firends - perhaps not as good after Eric ran off with George's wife - and George is well known to have been humble about his own abilities - hardly sorry - and admiration for others' talents, so it isn't surprising he asked Eric to play on one of his songs. Jeff Lynn relates the tale of when he asked George to play a solo on one of his songs and George refused saying Jeff could easily play the piece just as well. Jeff admitted as much was true, but insisted, saying that he wanted GEORGE HARRISON to play it. Wouldn't you? "Just thought you'd like to know."

| Re: The Great 7 bands voted for the Doors, also. EVH could smoke 'em. Just wish that Van Halen's success hadn't of lead to all the wannabe spandex hair bands that were the 80's! That commercial mainstream bull crap makes me wanna !

| Re: The Great 7 bands BoaB: you have a great way of explaining things. Nalepa: George could have easily played the solo on While My Guitar Gently Weeps. But I think it's nice to have a guest on a Beatles recording; you didn't get that often with them (except for session musicians). |
