Least Favourite Floyd Albums

We seem to have plenty of polls about best/favourite album/song/person etc so how about a poll for your least favourite album.

Mine would be a toss up between Ummagumma (studio) or The Final Cut.

Sysyphus ?? Pass the paracetomol!

Ive kinda stayed away from the "bad" albums like DB, MLOR, FC and, so the worst that ive listened to all the way through (somehow cos i couldnt stand it) was Piper

well, I don't think I can make a judgement at this point, seeing how I haven't heard half of the albums listed. I've yet to be disappointed by the Floyd, but, well, you know.

...and I actually like Atom Heart Mother. Haven't heard many good things on here about it.

I would hesitate to call any of them bad particularly, they all have some redeeming feature, even my least favourite ones'.

I wouldn't say I disliked any of the albums that I own, but the one I listen to least is Animals...I just can't get into it! I've got a recording of Ummagumma and most of it is complete crap, with it's only redeeming feature being "The Narrow Way pt.3".

...Thinking about it now, I probably should have voted for that instead!

Oh well...

My vote goes to Anim-- er, Ummagumma. It's a lot more painful to listen to than TFC.
Especially Sysyphus and The Grand Vizier's Garden Party.

see, now i don't own Ummagumma, but I think I would like it. The live album sounds pretty cool, and personally, I enjoyed the track "Several Small Species..."

The live section is actually not bad but I would approach the rest, apart from Grantchester Meadows, with extreme caution!

It's a close fight between Umma studio and TFC for me, but my vote goes to The Final Cut.

Well, it's only my opinion of course and I'm sure loads of people would disaggree with me, the only way to see if I'm right is to check it out for yourself!

No one of them is a *bad * album. No one. You should listen to all of them.

Ummagumma

I think before you pass judgment on an album you should listen to it. I mean REALLY LISTEN to it. Ummagumma is not a bad album, not one of their best, but a very good album. The live disc is absolutely brilliant because it captures Floyd at a time when they were one of the most innovative bands out there. Their pre-Dark Side were filled with long compositions and experimentation (especially live) I think to call Ummagumma crap is a little misguided. Although the studio album disc on Ummagumma is a little disjointed - in a way it proves and shows just how great Floyd were when they played together. Their individual compositions on the studio album (although Gilmour supposedly got some help on the lyrics from Roger or someone else) were their own creative experiments. I think the live album proves they were a better band when they played together and when they played live.
I think some of you really do not realize how important some of these songs were to Floyd. The four live tracks were all regular live tracks that they played at most venues at the time. As for the studio album-it is very important to their live shows. Some of the songs like The Narrow Way mixed in with some of the songs off More were used to create their day-night theme that can be heard on bootlegs like The Man and the Journey. In essence it is an album that goes through the cycle of a day:

1. Daybreak 6:42
2. Work/Afternoon 5:08
3. Doing It 1:20
4. Sleep (intro) 1:22
5. Sleep 2:14
6. Nightmare 6:47
7. Daybreak/Part Two 2:08
8. The Beginning 3:04
9. Beset By The Creatures Of The Deep 6:13
10. The Narrow Way/Part Three 4:58
11. The Pink Jungle 4:37
12. The Labyrinths Of Auximenes 2:53
13. Behold The Temple Of Light 3:36
14. The End Of The Beginning 6:22

This is when Floyd were at their most creative and their music had the most balls. To write off Ummagumma without realizing its implication in Floyd's later musical development and their live performances shows a little ignorance.

As for the worst album - A Lack of Momentary Talent! Its not a Floyd album - its the DAVID GILMOUR BAND

And, in behalf of Wing'd, I recommend you to listen to Ummagumma!!! Decide for yourself if it's good or not! EVERY Floyd album deserves to be experienced. Even if I say Umma and TFC are the worst *in my opinion* I think every Floyd fan should carefully listen to these albums and all of the others, and listen to them AGAIN, and discover what's good in them. Enjoy.
