As a matter of fact, I've noticed the lacking input on the "missing members" albums. Its heard on the records when Syds out, on AMLOR when Dave is the "primary" input, and on TDB when the 3 remaining members contribute without Roger.

Just listen to the solo albums and you can hear what would be missing if they were called Pink Floyd. I do like them though

I find that 'About Face' is somewhat lacking in interesting music and more geared towards an older market that, at that point didn't suit David. Perhaps the reinvention of Eric Clapton as the halogen lit, slow handed coffee table rock lord had had some influence on the packaging and marketing, but for myself, I like the candid cool of the 'David Gilmour' album over it, the flip side showing David unselfconsciously 'messing about', which contrasts directly with the posed 'thumb aloft' cover photo on the successive LP.

I agree with most of you who love the DG album best. I think it is a great work, especially Raise My Rent. I was not a great fan of AF for quite a while, although I thought it was still better than a lot of other music out there. But one night I was listening and I finally realized it is a tremendous album, with the exception of Love on the Air. For some reason that song (which I do not like) had overshadowed the entire album for me. He really did some brilliant playing on AF. Until We Sleep and Murder are amazing, really. I love Cruise. All Lovers Are Deranged showcases his singing as well as his playing. And then, of course, there's Let's Get Metaphysical! Does anyone else think Love on the Air is out of place on this album?

I love AMLoR. Seeing as Dave was involved in all of the songs and played guitars, Keyboards and programmed the drums it really is HIS album.

If any of you own Pink Floyd - A Visual Documentary (book) then you'll know that dave said the following :

'I played keyboards on AMLoR and pretended it was Rick. I programmed most of the drums but Nick did a little. Rick put no money into AMLoR because he said it was too risky without Roger. So he got paid for each album it sold instead of taking a cut of the profit. This was the same fr the following tour.'

I love DG, but although AF isn't as good, I still believe it's a good piece of music. Murder and Love on the air are lovely. AMLOR is really good too, but that is 'Pink Floyd'. I don't care if he did it all by himself, the name of the band is PF. The same with TFC...
Whatever, I love DG and Short and Sweet is the best song!!
