How to build a slide guitar

A while back I said that I was being tempted to build a slide guitar.

My school/college has a new technology block. This would come in handy with tools/machinary. They also have a load of types of wood. Ive got a lot more time now that I dropped a subject giving me and extra 5 hours a week to waste.

Im on the verge of buying some humbuckers on ebay, they're currently £22, are they worth it and suitable?

This is the first time Ive ever tryed anything like this. Grateful for all the help you guys and gals can give.

Baby Floyd; put a link to the eBay auction, and I'll look at it for you.

I'd get the humbuckers. If I'm thinking right, then that's around $50 American, and that's good for two pickups.

Secondly, that's the first picture I've seen of the big DG playing a lap steel.

Any other questions?

Ho, the good old reliable Fender. I also am building one although I my not have the time to complete it for a good while as I am doing my Leaving Cert. in a few months (Thats like the English A-Levels, Aussie HSC, German Abitur....). But, remember this. The great thing about steel guitars is the fact that they are just a big lump off wood with strings on. (Ok, not quite but you get the idea.) The rest is the electronics, which is my weaker side unfortunatly. I do remember a link to a site about this topic on the "Pedal Steel/Lap Steel" thread way back.

Best of luck on your project, keep us posted on the progress. I checked the E-bay link, looks like you missed out on the bid, sorry.

Try http://www.Musiciansfriend.com
You can usually find some pretty good deals on pickups. A few weeks ago they had a Seymour Duncan humbucker for around $35.00 US.

You may also want to look at http://www.Warmoth.com for tuners, frets, and other hardware.

Good luck!
