| I saw Rush in Montreal back on October 18, 2002. Ii was the first real concert I have ever been to. Sometimes I wish that I had been born thirty years earlier so that I could have seen all of my favourite bands in conert in their prime, like Rush, Jethro Tull, Black Sabbath, and Led Zeppelin, many others, but espicially Pink Floyd. I would have loved to have seen them on the Animals tour espicially. Anyway, here's my story about ther Rush concert:
It rocked, however I found that the bass volume was too low. Geddy cranked it up on Leave That Thing Alone, but otherwise it was too low for me. I was on the side facing Alex, so the guitar and drums sounded great. I moved to six different locations throughout the concert, starting with seats in the lower bowl which were not ours. There were about ten empty seats in the lower bowl on the side facing Alex, which was very strange. No one was in them when the show started so my friend and I took them. After the first set we moved to the other side of the arena and sat in a great seats near Geddy, in the lower bowl during the first part of the second set. We had seats fairly close to the stage on Geddy's side. However, as One Little Victory was starting up, the owners of the seats came back and we moved again, this time in the doorway right above those same seats. It was still an excellent location, still close to Geddy, which really worked in our favour for the Driven bass solo. During Secret Touch, we moved to the direct opposite side for Dreamline, Red Sector A, and Leave That Thing Alone. We were standing in the entranceway in the same fashion that we were on the other side. We saw lots of unoccupied seats in the front couple of rows, so we decided to try them out. We moved down and started to sit in them, but a Rush tech guy or whatever shook his head. We had to move, but it was still cool to have an interaction with a Rush dude. We moved back to the cooridor but now there were security guards there so we had to move again. We went into a resriticted area in the upper-most bowl right above the stage for The Rhythm Method (and the solo was almost completely new by the way). It was an incredible spot to see Peart play because we could see everything that he did. I could not believe the roars of appalause and cheering throughout the concert, but it reached its height during the solo. Looking over into the section next to us, I saw a flashlight shine right at us so I knew that we had to get out of there soon. We were safe until the end of the solo, but when we tried to leave the area we were caught by some guy. He started to rip our tickets, but he had mercy and told us to go back to our original seats (which we had yet to sit in). Accoustic Resist was starting as we ran to the seats that were on our ticket and sat down for the rest of the concert. However I think I was on my feet for most of By-Tor. My friend and I both got 2112 t-shirts, but I sort of wish that I had gotten a Vapour Trails one.
I completely blasted my voice, as well as my hearing. Also, I was yelling throughout the entire concert, with on particularly big scream of "GEDDY!!!!" when I saw him walk accross the stage during the intermission. After the concert, a group of us went out clubing, which was extremely loud too. Another thing about the concert was the the incredible amount of pot that was smoked. For the whole first set, the people in front of us were smoking up. It was nuts! Anyhow, that was only the beginning of a crazy weekend in Montreal. I still cannnot believe that I saw my musical heroes in concert and I'm pretty desperate to see them again. I hope that the band continues the tour in the new year. The concert was amazing, and the whole weekend (espicially the concert) is something that I will never forget.
