Probably either Metallica in '90 or Roger this year would be the best gigs that spring to mind. Although, for sheer energy, Slayer, Megadeth, Suicidal Tendencies and Testament under the one banner was a pretty sweaty one.

Cheers,

Mark

[i] Way too many concerts to review, but if someone has a question about a particular show, I'd be glad to try to remember it. [/B]
A very impressive concert resume.

I do have questions, btw, if you are willing to answer. Would like to hear more about the Clapton show, i think, and maybe some about Edgar W. (have never seen either of them). Also,...out of all those Rush shows, which one was your favorite?

Would also like to hear something more about "The Wall" at London's Earls court, if Bride of a Bull wouldn't mind.

Could probably spend all day thinking up questions, but am rather pressed for time right now, trying to get things ready to go out of town for a while... would you mind if we continue this conversation when I get back?

I have recounted this tale already elsewhere, but I can repeat that it was effing BRILLIANT! Ask whatever questions you like.

I missed seeing the original shows in 1980 in London because of low funds, but was v pleased to hear further shows planned for the movie (Movie? :o Hurrah!) soundtrack.

Was out of my tree, mostly, but the show was a sound and light spectaculAARRR unequalled in my experience since.

Pink Floyd are Great!

BoaB: They actually said that they were putting on more shows for the express purpose of filming them?

Yes, but they said they would be recording the concerts for the soundtrack, not filming them.

I guess it would be mostly for the Surrogate Band sequence.

Cool.

Where did you sit? Were they good seats, you think?

No problem

1) The Clapton show was great - mainly because I had a preconceived notion of what a Clapton show would be like - lots of blues and some kick-ass licks. He didn't disappoint. I saw him in an outdoor venue (Saratoga Performing Art Center in NY). It was a beautiful summer night, and the band he had with him was amazing. I particular, Nathan East on bass - I love that guy! I remember watching Clapton stand there on stage, not moving, and laying down the most amazing guitar riffs. I thought to myself: Clapton IS God!

2) Edgar Winter was also very good. This time, the venue was a small 1000 seat club with the stage "in the round". Leon Russell opened up (he was frickin' awesome), and Edgar had Rick Derringer as his lead guitarist. We had front row seats and just rocked out all night long. Great, intimate show!

3) Which Rush show was the best? I'm a hard-core Rush fan, so they were all great...but the show after 'Moving Pictures' (1981 I think) was one of their best. I like 'Moving Pictures' and 'Permanent Waves' the best out of all of their albums, and they did a good bit of these albums in that show. Also, as stated above, the 1996 'Test For Echo' tour was outstanding. They extended their show to almost 3 hours and dug out some oldies - including the first complete performance of 2112 since the 'Permanent Waves' tour in 1980.

Thanks for the Q's!

We, a friend and I, were up in the gallery on the right side (facing the stage) of the auditorium but very close to the front (of the gallery) and about a third of the way back from the stage. No facing seats, but we could at least see the people on stage.

And the music...well, what can one say? It was Pink Floyd and if they ever got anything right, it was Live quadrophonic (polyphonic?) sound! Noises and music coming out everywhere.

Btw, terminalfrost, there's a bit of a coincidence, because Cyndi Lauper's lead guitarist was also none other than Rick Derringer.

For all The Doors fans here, I forgot to mention that I saw Robbie Krieger. His son did all the vocals. They were awesome. Oh, but if you haven't heard, The Doors are reuniting, and on The Harley Davidson Concert tour.

Did that tour already start, or has it yet to start, PearlWaters?

And Robbie Krieger is cool.

Yes, it did already start Shane. I feel kind of bad, mentioning this on the site slipped my mind. Your're from FL, and the closest they got to us was Atlanta. There are some dates left....

There's many other great bands playing on the tour, too.

Thanks for the reviews...sounds like some really great shows!

Rick Derringer, eh? Wow, and I thought Edgar did his own lead work. Sometimes the smaller, more intimate shows are more appealing. And Clapton...well, what can I say, except I'm just a bit envious. He is a legend.

I think I may have mentioned somewhere in the Forum about seeing Rush during their "Farewell to Kings" tour. Just incredible, from what I remember.

And "The Wall"...sounds like an exotic venue for such a massively exquisite production.

Here's a (slightly altered) joke that Terminalfrost's comment reminded me of-- A guy dies and goes to heaven, and he's floating around checking it all out, and he sees A bearded guy playing "Sugar Magnolia" on a guitar, and the guys asks one of the angels around him, "Hey, isn't that Jerry Garcia?" The angel says, "Yeah, it sure is." Then he noticed a guy with sunglasses singing "Pretty Woman". Wow, isn't that Roy Orbison?" "Yup", answers the angel. A little while later, just down the golden brick street, he saw a black man singing "Good Morning Little School Girl". "Wow, Muddy Waters"? "That's right", says the angel. Then, standing over on the street corner, he noticed a guy wearing a old hat, playing the hell out of a Stratocaster, singing "Texas Flood". The guy said "Incredible, there's Stevie Ray Vaughn. The angel looked at him, and replied, "No, that's God--he just thinks he's Stevie Ray..."

If you like that one, I also know one about Ray Charles (No religious debates, please...)

Thanks again for your comments.

I actually got to meet Mr. Kreiger at some cheesy Rock-con (in essence a bootlegger's convention) he signed a Doors poster of mine, and didn't even seem to care that I had no interest at all in his new album.
