Question Lefty Guitar Player Queston

OK his strings are upside down!! Usually the thickest lowest string (E) is the closet to the top of ones body, whereas the thinnest string (e) is closest to the ground. Why is it the reverse with this guitar player? Is it due to personal preference or is it just the fact that it is a lefty guitar? I am perplexed. Thanks in advance.

I take it your speaking of Doyle Bramhall II, on the ITF video? Most leftys do use a standard string arrangement, but Doyle seems to have learned to play on a standard "righty".

Based on the fact that Doyle II grew up hanging around with Stevie Ray Vaughan one can only be lead to assume that as a young'un he had access to many a standard strat and just picked it up from there.

I know of a couple of other "leftys" who play the same way, they have all told me a similar story. One you get used to it, it don't really matter.

Dick Dale, surf guitarist of reknown, plays left-handed with the strings the 'wrong way' around.

I've also heard that Paul McCartney, playing with right-handed guitarists so much in the '60s, can play proficiently with the strings the opposite way than normal, too.

MOst left handed guitar players play with the strings in the same order as a right handed player would play on there guitar , but i guess there must be exceptions,..........
