I haven't heard the rare studio version. You're forgetting about the chopped down version of echoes from the greatest hits album. Why they would edit down a fantastic song like that is beyond me...

beacause they knew it would upset all the dorks in floydsville.

Well, then colour me dork-ish and buy me a ticket to Floydsville, because I think that version of Echoes was absolutely SAVAGED!

Well said, BoaB! And if "Echoes" was savaged, then "Marooned" was positively GUTTED! In my opinion, both of those songs are such that it's all or nothing. I would've preferred NOTHING to those ruined versions.

Ya, there is nothing worse then killin Marooned. They took out the upbeat part >.< Breaks my heart!

I dunno. The edited songs are more accessible to newer fans. I mean, that's the target for this collection, isn't it? It's not for all us grizzled Floyd-worshippers, it's for new fans who might be scared off by the notion of a 23-minute song. Or the crappy drumming on Marooned.

Actually, I don't mind the edited Echoes for a quick high. Marooned, well I can't think of anything that shouldn't have been edited.

Crappy drumming on marooned? I didn't notice, maybe i'll have another listen. If I remember correctly on the "new" echoes, the introduction section was edited, and the part after the first two stanzas was chopped down. Then, they left the funky section untouched, sliced up the section after. Then, finally, they cut down the section after the third stanza. When I heard it, I thought that the edits made the funky section drag on too long, and the other edits caused some sections to sound incomplete. Botley: More accessible? I think that casual music listeners would gasp just as much at a 23:00 song as a 16:00 song. The purpose was obviously to be able to fit more songs on the CD.

I think i was most disapointed about the SOYCD editing. NO bass solo. That was my favorite part. I have a nice version of echoes on the bootleg "Londonfields"

Where is there a bass solo? And what's wrong with bass solos? |

Long after the last verse, minutes before the end Roger unleashes a kick ass, groovy bass solo. You dont know what im talking about? You know im talking about Shine on You Crazy Diamond, right?
