Is rock still alive?

It seems to me that Rock And Roll started dying in the late 80's and the early 90's, is it still alive or is it gone now? I don't believe there is any bands around today that come close to comparing with the legends, what do you think. Some call Nirvana's junk rock (IMO) I think it's a lot of bull about, ohhh I don't like my parents, ohhh no one loves me, and they play three chords in the whole Nervermind album, should THIS be classified as rock? Not in my opinion, but what do YOU think?

I haven't heard one NEW band that has satisfied me as much as the rock legends, but I've hear O.K. bands, nothing to brag about though.

Lightbulb Re: Is rock still alive?

A constant sensation of déjà vu, these days... Try to perform a quick search on this forum, keyword "rock", search for titles only, you will find the very... erm... "similar" (and recent) thread "Is rock dead?"

Enjoy

Re: Is rock still alive?

Indeed, there is a good thread called 'Is Rock Dead?' (by Wing'd Icarus, I think), that deals with this subject nicely.

And I won't even comment on your opinions of Nirvana.

You're comparing relatively new artists who have been around for only a few years to "legends" who've probably had decades to establish themselves. That's nonsense.

Most of the 'legends' made their best stuff back in the 70's when they were 'new bands'......

Never mind that there were people back then that looked upon them with the same disdain that you have for today's "new bands".

I give new bands a chance just as much as I give the classic bands a chance--I really do...but they're simply not as good.
I can tell you I like Mozart, and a lot of other classical music more than Classic Rock, they're simply better.
It would be like saying that New authors will be able to write something equivilent to Homer's Oddesy, or Shakesphere's Othello....it's not gonna happen! Ever!!!

...and to add to that...I like some bands of today..I'm just saying that they are not IMO AS GOOD as some Classic Rock bands
